Another Work Day

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Must be a growing boy.  He sure likes his rest time.  I put a cover over the couch and Yuma thinks it’s his place of rest while I am working at the table on the computer.

Around 10 o’clock this morning, I headed over to my neighbor’s van and took the starter off.  The van sits high enough to just slide under it and work.  Didn’t take long before we were heading into Yuma with a greasy starter in hand and Yuma in the back storage area.  He rides back there without a squabble.  He just lays down and occasionally looks out the windows to see what is going on.  This guy is a natural at everything he does.image

Praying we had a bad starter, I went into the O’Reilly Auto Parts store and had the starter tested.  Unfortunately, it tested fine, so back to square one.  Not knowing what else to do, we bought a new solenoid just to try since it was only $15.

We then went on over to the Yuma Humane Society and I picked up Yuma’s medical history since it was not ready when I left town last week.  Glad to have that out of the way.  Now I am free to leave town whenever I am ready.

When we arrived back at the van, I put the starter back on and replaced the old solenoid with the new one and turned the key on and got the same old click and no starter sound.  That was a real bummer.

I am now at a loss as what to do.  It is going to take more of a mechanic than me to solve the problem.  I feel bad, because it could just as easily have been my motorhome and I wouldn’t be able to fix it.  Fortunately, I have towing insurance.

My plan is to go to Walmart tomorrow and spend one more day around here getting Yuma acclimated to the motorhome before moving on towards Quartzsite where the big RV shin dig is going on this month.

I am feeling confident Yuma will not run when not on the leash.  Several times today, I unhooked him near the door and he just waited for it to open and in he went.  I know there will come a time when I have to do a real test, but the longer I can wait the better.  It will probably come accidently when I leave the door open by mistake and he comes out on his own.  Hopefully, looking for me and not to bolt off into the desert to live with his coyote friends.

I noticed I did not have a photo of my place in the LTVA (long term visiting area), so grabbed one on my afternoon walk with Yuma.  I am on a concrete slab sandwiched between two scrawny Palo Verde trees.  It was another nice sunny warm day, so can’t complain.

See you later.

  1. What a very nice pup you have acquired. On my young dog I use a harness instead of a collar when he is on the lead. And I use a 15' small diameter nylon rope when I walk him. Let's him get far enuff ahead to explore a little and I can bring him up short when we are crossing a dangerous area. He walks me every day and the cardiologist is very pleased.
    Bless you for rescuing Yuma.

    1. Thank you Don. I thought about getting a harness. May just pick one up while at Walmart today.

    1. Have you tried cleaning the ground connection from the starter?

    2. I took the starter down and had it tested and it works perfectly. This morning, I will go through all the connections and make sure they are clean and secure. Thank you Rick.

If he does that he will be dinner for them not a playmate. Yots will use a female in heat to lure dogs away from protection then the pack will jump them.
