Cleaning, Errands and Yuma’s First Bath

Sunday and Monday, January 25 and 26, 2015

Yesterday was going to be the last nice day for several days to come, so decided to clean the MH, change sheets and give Yuma his first bath.  Haven’t cleaned since I got Yuma a couple weeks ago and the place was an inch deep in dust and dog hair.  Time to do it.

Took all the rugs out and shook them.  Then got on my hands and knees and wet wiped the entire laminate floor. Thank goodness it isn’t carpet or it would be ground in to it.  Didn’t take long since there isn’t much space, but it sure looked nice to not see dirt everywhere.

Then came Yuma.  Didn’t have any dog shampoo so a little Head and Shoulders would have to do the trick.  I heated some water so he would have a nice warm bath.  Not really a bath; more like a sponge bath with a wash cloth.

At first, Yuma balked a little and backed off when I put the wet wash cloth on him, but that was it.  He sat there like a perfect gentleman while I talked to him and ran a wet cloth over him with shampoo.  Washed and rinsed him and then brushed his hair.  Yuma even did a little washing himself and when I dropped the wash cloth, he was nice enough to pick it up for me.

He absolutely loved being brushed.image

Then came the brushing and drying part.  We both enjoyed that.

Once he was clean, Yuma sprawled out on the couch enjoying life for awhile and then nap time.  I don’t know how he gets his feet tied like that.

Today was errand day.  At 11 am, Yuma and I loaded up the jeep with laundry and headed for Parker, about 25 miles north on hwy 62.  It connects to hwy 95 about 10 miles south of town.image

Found the only Laundromat in town and quickly got my clothes washed and dried.  The place was packed but they didn’t slow me down at all.image

On the way to Walmart, I stopped at the park and let Yuma walk around for awhile and then filled the jeep with gas.

I left Yuma in the jeep while I did my shopping.  I had called in my prescription medicine earlier in the day, so went and picked it up with no problem.  I wasn’t long getting the groceries and out I came $85 poorer.  Threw the bags on top of the laundry and we were on our way home.image

When I came out of Walmart, it started to sprinkle and by the time I was down the road 10 miles it was raining.image

Didn’t do much after getting home except put the groceries up and fold the laundry and put it up.  The rain is coming down pretty hard as I write this blog.  Thank goodness, there are a lot of rocks around here or it would be a mud bath moving around out there.

See you later.

    1. Now he is a clean lucky dog. Thanks, Don. I lived in Midwest City, Okla for a short time in mid 60s. Kinda looked like here except no mountains.

  2. I think you & I are the same in that we are continuously talking to our best Pals. I've always felt that is crucial to forming a strong unbreakable bond. 'Man's best friend' is sooooo true & how lucky we are to have such a great warm & loving friendship with our very much most bestest Pals:)).

    1. You're right, Al. Yuma is a lot like Pheebs. He waits for me to move in the morning and there he is ready to give his morning licks. Such a loving dog.

  3. You sure found yourself a sweet, handsome boy to rescue. He looks so very happy laying on your chest -- almost as happy as you are to have him there! We've never been without a dog or 2...or 3 or 4...in our entire married life. Although we've talked about not getting any more when these guys aren't with us anymore (it would make it easier to go places for all day or even an occasional overnight), I just can't imagine not having them. Nothing better than those doggie faces first thing in the morning & last thing at night.

    1. Thank you Renee. I too had plans of never getting another dog, but on this trip I was getting lonely for someone to talk to. When I first met Yuma, I could tell he was the dog for me. It was hard to finally get him home from the humane society and then to almost lose him was almost unbearable. He loves to give kisses in the morning when I wake up.

  4. I bond with my horses when I groom them. I brush them, lift up their feet, and talk to them the whole time. Sometimes I can physically feel them relaxing. I can now put my hands on my chestnut mare's head. THAT took 2 years to accomplish!

    1. You must be a very patient and loving person to develop such a comfortable relationship with your mare. I have always been nervous around horses because of their size, but I've never had the opportunity to be around horses very much.

I agree that talking and touching your pets develops that special relationship that pets need. I can tell Yuma just loves to be close to me all the time. If not on me he is pushing right up next to me. I can't wait till we develop total trust with each other.

    1. Yuma and I seemed to have hit it off. There were so many bloggers at the blog-fest it was difficult to meet everyone. I have even forgotten some of those that I did meet. My memory for names is terrible. It was a good time though.

I read your recent blog entries and sure was an unfortunate beginning for you and Sharon in Yuma. Luckily, you were in a big town like Yuma instead of Borrego Springs when you sprung your leak.

    2. I'm sure Yuma would enjoy being bathed often! He seemed to love the first one! There are a lot of beautiful pictures in the last 2-3 blogs. I love the one of the laundromat!
