Castle Dome Mines Museum

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Got up late today.  After 8 a.m. and the sun was already pounding on the solar panel.  After all our duties for the morning, Yuma and I decided to head for Castle Dome Peak.  As you know, this was our plan for yesterday until the Jeep problems.  It is a gorgeous day with lots of sunshine and bubbly clouds with very little wind.  Perfect!

Here’s our destination as I see from the road in front of our rig.  About 27 miles north on hwy 95 towards Quartzsite.  Let me warn you.  There may be photo overload today.

The Castle Dome Mountains are in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge.  Read more by clicking on the link.

Had to stop enroute to take a few photos near the lake.

The big guns at the entrance to the road going to YPG (Yuma Proving Ground).

Turned off hwy 95 and heading across the desert on a bumpy road.

We’re there already.  Ten bucks to get in and you can stay all day.  What a deal.

As I was walking along this little girl wanted by me in the worst way.  She was carrying a long string and I’m sure she had a nest near by and I was between her and her lair.  We danced, and she dropped the string and ran around me for home.

I think this mirror has seen its day.

Couldn’t resist stopping the Jeep on the way out and getting one last shot of these magnificent mountains.

Back at camp, but with the clouds looking so beautiful late in the afternoon, I couldn’t stop shooting.

Not a bad place to call home.  If you look closely way up in the hills, there are off-road vehicles buzzing along heading for the top.  Center right near the top.  Click on any photo to enlarge.

There they are.

See you later.

  6. Glad the Jeep was fixed and running good - definitely wouldn't want to be stranded out in there . Another fun and scenic adventure for you and Yuma !

  7. What a beautiful day!!! I especially liked the little little girl bunny who tried to get by you, but I was sad she dropped her string. I also thought Castle Dome City buildings were cute! Those clouds were magnificent! Thank you for the gorgeous pictures!
