Windy Day in the desert

Ogilby Road West of Yuma, Arizona

Woke up early this morning and read a few blogs and then went back to sleep till around 8 o'clock when the sun was up.  Looked out the window and I could see Deb and Riley had left the area.  Looks to be a nice sunny day but a little cooler.

I was up till midnight last night getting my long post out the door and had lots of dishes to do and picking up around the RV this morning before I could fix breakfast.  Got that done and when I stepped outside, I noticed the wind was picking up and it was a cool wind.  The winds kept getting stronger into the afternoon.

I wondered what the sand dunes would look like in 15 mph gusts, so Yuma and I jumped in the Jeep and took a look see.  Had to protect my camera, because the back windows have been removed and sand was blowing everywhere, once I got to the dunes.
Yuma and I walked through the dunes towards the wall separating our two countries and I took a couple of pictures using my zoom.

Yuma kept guard to make sure no aliens creeped up on me while I was taking the wall pictures.
We stopped to rest a few moments at a tree to get out of a wind gust that came up unexpectedly.
After that, we came right back home and stayed indoors the rest of the day.  The wind finally died around 6 o'clock and it is quiet and cool out.  Unfortunately, the wind put a damper on any outdoor Happy Hour.  Glad we had our bon fire last night.

Did manage a sunset shot at the end of the day.
See you later.

    1. Thank you Mr. OFM. I'm glad you're enjoying the blog. Texas has a lot of blowing sand too.

  3. What a fabulous sunset with the clouds! Looks like it was pretty windy at the dunes. Where was the "traffic" at thwe wall? 😁 Looking sharp in your camo gear. Yuma really seems to like the sand.

    1. Thanks Dolly. Yuma loves the sand. I have to really keep an i on him or he disappears into the desert. I took those Wall pictures at a different place in the desert.

  4. Nice sunset shot, Doug, but I'm glad we weren't out in the desert with that wind and sand blowing. I'm sure the dunes were empty today!
I missed the sun set altogether, we were inside with blinds down.

    1. Thanks Patsy. I had heard it is not pleasant to be in the dunes when it is windy. Had to see for myself. I'm dumb that way. :))

  5. We were gone before those winds picked up and started tossing that sand around. We had a bit of dust just before we arrived but nothing like that. I guess we left in time. Haha.

    1. I thought about how you made the timely move out of here. Quite a bit of wind and cooler today. Dead quiet now so hopefully no wind tomorrow.

  6. When we headed back today we could not believe how windy it was. When we left this morning there was hardly any breeze. We could see the dust as we got closer. I stepped outside for a bit to get some pictures of the sunset and it was chilly. Enjoyed your pictures but would not want to be walking around with that sand blowing.

    1. I was wondering if you two got caught in the wind. I just had to see how the winds affect the sand dunes. It was interesting but a one time event. The wind was quite cool compared to last night. Hope Tom's appointment went well. One of my back molars is starting to act up. Hoping it goes away. :((

    1. Thanks Moonfly. I hope the border security doesn't pick me up thinking I'm impersonating a military soldier. :))

    1. Thanks. Yuma seems to really like the dunes for some reason. Hard for me to walk in but he flies through it.

  9. That's so cute that Yuma loves the dunes. Last year we stayed in the dunes for a week. One day we had a sand storm. Not fun at all! Today is much nicer.

    1. The sand is beautiful but it does get into everything when the wind blows.
