Slept fairly well for the first night on the road. Had a short breakfast and took Yuma for a walk and we were on the road by 9 o'clock.
It was cloudy and a light rain started around Springfield soon after we started our drive and lasted till Joplin at the Missouri/Oklahoma border.
Had small sprinkles till Tulsa, Oklahoma but they were not bad. The winds really picked up to around 20 mph in Oklahoma with gusts in the 30s out of the North. It made driving kinda rough. They lasted the rest of the day.
My big worry was getting through Oklahoma City and it was hard. There was road construction on I44 going into the city and the hook-up to I40 was difficult. The roads were really bad.
I was expecting to find a rest area about 30 miles west of OKC but there wasn't one, so I drove an additional 20 miles to the Walmart in Weatherford, OK.
Stayed here before and with the temperature getting down to 21 tonight, probably a good thing. Got here at 4 o'clock and we are in for the night. I'm sure the heater will be going tonight. Luckily, the wind has died down.
Had dinner already and just finishing my blog. Only 6:30 but I'm ready to lay down and rest.Traveled 387 miles today and took 7 hours. Stopped twice for diesel and one stop for a short break so Yuma could walk around a little. He is settling down, but I think he would rather be at home.
See you later.
I'm glad you made it through those winds! You probably really got buffeted. Yuma will be fine as long as he's with his Daddy. I'm sure he just misses the treats at home. 😃 Have good travels tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. It was a cold, cloudy, rainy, windy day. So glad it's over. Just have to make it through this cold night. Down to 23. Brr! Yuma hates it too.
DeleteI know exactly where you are. We used that same Weatherford Walmart 3 or 4 times over the years for an overnighter either coming from or going to the Southwest. To avoid the Oklahoma City crush we generally used the toll roads around the north end of the city on our way home.
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice place to stay. Out of the wind and very quiet surprisingly. Not a good travel day. Glad it's over.
DeleteWell you and Yuma are moving right along. Really like the Route 66 rest area we have stayed there a couple of times. Glad you made it through the wind safely. Sounds like you found a good place to tuck in for the night. Continued safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom and Deb. It was a rough and cold day. Sure glad it's over.
DeleteI'm catching up with your blog from the past few days, after a busy week while our kids were here. Glad to see you are on the road again.... We will wait another month before we head south to TX. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheri. Our kids live in town so we had a quiet Thanksgiving. I may have to try Texas coast one winter.
DeleteHope you have less wind today. However here in AZ we are under a wind advisory until this afternoon. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteMuch less wind today. Didn't like yesterday much but today is beautiful.
DeleteI do hate driving in wind. I just slow down a lot and let everyone pass me. I'm sure Yuma will be happier when you aren't just traveling, but settle in somewhere for awhile. Those long drives are not my thing unless I absolutely have to be somewhere. Safe travels ...
ReplyDeleteI hate the drive out, but luckily I forget the misery soon. I drive around 65 and everyone else passes me by. :))
DeleteI am enjoying the ride with you. Thanks for the postings.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gene. You wouldn't have liked yesterday. Luckily today is much better.
DeleteWind and RV'S are not fun together. Jerry spent so many years on the road that he doesn't want to deal with things like wind. We just stop and wait it out....cuz we are retired! Be safe.
ReplyDeleteI should have but was determined to get to my destination for the night. Glad it's over.
DeleteGlad you are having Safe travels even with the higher winds.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy your adventures.
It's about time.
It was a bad weather day and crowded to boot. So glad it's over.
DeleteYou're moving right along, before you know it you'll be in the southwest!
ReplyDeleteOver half way. The hardest half. Should be in Tucson in a couple days. Looking forward to warmer weather. Been cold so far.
