Laundry day

It was nice and quiet here with the whole desert to myself.   I heard rain on the roof last night and expected cloudy skies this morning.  Nope, nice blue skies with large dark puffy clouds.

Santa Rosa Mountains

Had my crackers and coffee while planning my day.  Decided to go ahead and get the laundry out of the way and take a first look at Borrego Springs at the same time.  Started gathering stuff and when I was ready to go I realized I had forgotten to eat my last two breakfast courses.  I hate getting old! 😕

It was 11:30, so just skipped breakfast and headed to town.  It's 30 mile away, but the drive through the badlands on S22 is beautiful.

All this time I've been going downhill towards the Clark Lake dry bed just outside of Borrego Springs.  Below, I see Black Mountain.
Now I can clearly see the dry lake bed dead ahead.
With the zoom it looks fantastic.
Now we're heading directly into Borrego Springs at the bottom of the San Ysidro Mountains.
Looks like showers in my future.

Didn't want to make any stops in town today.  Got to get my laundry done and get back to set up the Dish for tonight's Gold Rush.
The area where the laundry is there is a hotel and businesses built like an old western town.

Here's a picture looking east back through town towards Font's Point in the distance.
Poor Yuma did not like sitting around waiting for clothes to dry.  We sat at the entrance since no dogs were allowed.  Since not a soul was there, I wasn't too careful.

Here's what we were seeing.

Luckily, the rain didn't last too long and by the time I had the laundry folded the rain had stopped.  Soon, we were back at the White Lion and everything was put away.    Got the Dish going right off with no problems and fixed dinner early since I was hungry.

Watched the sunset shining its glow on the Salton Sea and the Black Mountains.

And then it was time for TV, finish my post and get ready for bed.  Not a bad day after all.

See you later.

  1. It's always good to get the laundry done and put away. If you have to do it, might as well pick a rainy day. Yuma goesnt look like he enjoys laundry day. 😃 Super pictures of your drive into town. Glad the dish worked right off and you didn't miss Gold Rush. Fantastic sunset.

  2. I think your clouds dumped the last of their water on me last night!! Glad the laundry is done. That is not my favorite chore. Very cool little town, although I have never been there. One of these days!!

    1. We're probably getting close to the end of cool and rain. Turned out to be a nice productive day.

  3. Heavy rain at the coast, even some hail! It was a fast moving storm. The park is open for day use, you and Yuma can enjoy some of the Jeep trails. If you do Fonts Point say 'Howdy' to my dad, his favorite spot, I released his ashes there almost a decade ago.

    1. I saw that a storm was coming through your area. Luckily, it didn't do much here. I'll be visiting Font's Point for sure. My favorite place too.

  4. I can't believe the empty roads and parking areas! Al and Kelly and Pheebs would love to be there right now.

So with the closed borders, the Southwest seems to be reverting to its original wilderness. It was Canadians who were causing the problems all along! (joke, joke! LOL)

    1. Sorry. Not the Canadians entirely. The state has shut down the park. No overnight parking. Peg Leg and Rockhouse Trail empty.

  5. I love the sunset picture and the picture sitting by the door....the welcoming committee! We went to BS but we didn't see the Western buildings. Sorry we missed that.

    1. Thank you Elva. The western buildings and laundry are at the far west end of town just as you turn to go up the mountain.

  6. You definitely had a productive day.
Interesting old west look to those buildings.
Lots of scenic pictures along with the Rain shower.
Surprised that you're not checking if any sculptures were added.
Be Safe and Enjoy the Scenery.

    It's about time.

  7. I thought your first picture was lovely but your last one takes the cake! Beautiful!
We like Borrego Springs and I love the Western store fronts. Glad you got that chore done and you had a nice day trip.
Nice picture of the two of you, two patient men, a rarity. :)

    1. Patience is not one of my virtues but glad the laundry is done. BS is a pretty town. I think Yuma remembered Christmas Circle as we drove past.

  8. In case you didn't know, there is a 'new' laundry in town, around the back side of the 'mall', near Carmelita's restaurant. I think it is more expensive though, so you likely made the best choice and it wasn't crowded either! I usually take a walk through the park visitor center while waiting on laundry. Great pics on S22!

    1. Nice to know Ivan. I enjoy going through the visitor center. Lots of history. They are starting to open up I think this weekend.
