Happy Valentine's Day and Daytona 500

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!  This morning it was nice and sunny.  Woke up to a knock at the door and Tom had a plate full of yummy cupcakes Deb had baked for my special Valentine's Day.  Thank you.

The only thing planned today is to watch the Daytona 500 over at the big tent with Tom and Shane today.  The winds picked up again today.  Probably worse than yesterday, but the tent holds up nicely.

After breakfast, Yuma and I headed over to the tent and Shane was just setting up the TV.   Got all set and the race started at around a little after noon.

Right off there was a huge wreck on the 15th lap and then rain.  The race didn't start back up until 6 o'clock.

Yuma and I came home and then drove over to the sand dunes rest area to get about four gallons of fresh drinking water.  While there, took a couple pictures of the crowds of dune buggies on the sand hills.

They would zoom down the sand hill on the left and then climb back up on the right.
Guess this group is just resting and watching the action.  The sand dunes are huge in this area.

On the way back I took a picture of my neighbor's RV.  Definitely unique.  Solar panels and a wind turbine for power.  You can see about every kind of home out here.

Just as I crossed the railroad tracks I could see a train coming, so I stopped to count the cars.  Trains out here are very long.  Started with three engines then 150 cars and then two more engines and then 97 cars with no caboose 😕.  Almost a four mile train.

Got home made myself a nice steak with potatoes and green beans dinner and followed it up with two of the blueberry cupcakes.  Yummy dinner and dessert!

What a sunset!

Around 6 o'clock, Yuma and I headed back over to the tent and watched the race.  Dolly and I were rooting for Logano and he was winning going into the last turn of the race and he was pushed from behind and knocked out of the race.  Someone I never heard of, Michael McDowell from Glendale, Arizona won the race.  Good for him.

Already 11 o'clock now.  Time to close up shop and hit the sack.  Thanks for stopping by.

    1. You're right Bill. I was hoping but not expecting to see one. 😕 only see them on side rails wasting away nowadays.

  3. I miss the cabooses. Jim watched the race but I gave up and went to bed. But McDowell was one happy guy. Steak is always a great option for a special meal.

    1. There was a huge break in the race. Glad I wasn't in the stands. Always good to lead in the last half mile for the first time. Maybe Love's will give free gas 😀

  4. I missed the race altogether. Sadly I do not get the local channels here, and try as I might to find it elsewhere, it never showed up. Sometimes I think maybe those taps from behind are on purpose!! Glad an Arizona guy won!!

    1. Probably good you didn't watch the race. Long rain delay. Yes, the leaders tapped themselves out of the race. 😀

  5. You enjoyed a long Valentine's Sunday! The muffins were delicious, I'm sure. Those dune buggy folks have the right idea. It looks like fun. Long trains are awesome to see. Hate those rain delays during a race. I'm sure a lot of folks around there were happy to see an Arizona boy win.

    1. Yes, Love's is a very popular fuel station in the west. Sure they're happy. And the team was sure shocked to win. Always good to see new winners. Glad I had the opportunity to catch a train.

    1. Your atv would have fun in the sand dunes. The place was crawling with them yesterday. Dolly finally got the name I couldn't remember. Deb made blueberry muffins. Been a long time since I've last counted train cars. Not too old yet. 😀

  7. Gave upon the race a long delay and my desire to see it just wasn't there. The dunes look like more fun! That's an interesting camper with a fun paint job. Even in the desert the sun doesn't shine at night, but there just be a lot of vibration from the wind power.

    1. Luckily, I had things to do so was glad for the delay during the day. Wonder how much power that wind turbine produces. May just have to go over and chat with him.
