Cold day in the Grasslands

Woke up this morning at 7 o'clock and the sun was trying to peek through clouds bumped up along the Whetstone Mountains.  Didn't get below freezing last night so all is well with the pipes.  Didn't get out of bed till after 9 o'clock and the clouds had thicken and there was a cold wind outside and a little drizzle too.

Didn't see either of our bird friends this morning.  Maybe too cold for them.  Around 11 o'clock the clouds dissipated and the sun came out, but still a cold wind.  Only getting to 50 degrees this after noon so not outside visiting today.

Finally took Yuma for a short walk and couldn't resist taking a few pictures of the beautiful mountains surrounding the grasslands.

It was around 2 o'clock when I decided to run into Sonoita for a milk and drinking water run.  Yuma was happy to be going someplace.  He jumped higher than I expected๐Ÿ˜€

Quickly got our milk and headed back the five miles on hwy 83.   Beautiful views everywhere you look!

Decided to make a quick run through the Empire Ranch and take a few pictures of the outside area.  History of the Empire RanchIvan mentioned in a comment that there was water at the ranch so got two gallons of drinking water while there.

It was about 3 o'clock so we walked over and visited with Tom and Deb for an hour or so inside their rig where it was warm.  We made the decision we would take a Jeep ride over the Montezuma Pass tomorrow starting late morning.  They have taken this ride before, but it will be my first.

Time for dinner now and a little TV before bedtime.  Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Fantastic pictures of the beautiful mountains and ranch area. You're really having a cold snap. Hopefully, it warms up tomorrow for your jeep ride with Tom, Deb and, of course, Yuma.

  2. Wowzzer! I don't think you have a drown ... how'd you get the pic of the road from above? Beautiful photos of an area I am not familiar with.
Do you have thoughts of adding insulation to your water pipes back home this summer?

    1. That's what I wondered too Jeff when I first saw the picture. Actually I was at the top of a hill using the zoom on the camera looking to the north towards the Rincon Mountains. Probably no insulation. Just drive away towards warmer climes ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

  3. Great pictures of today's sky. I never stepped out the door and just enjoyed them through the windows. Looking forward to tomorrow's ride. Fingers crossed no frozen pipes in the morning.

    1. Thank you Deb. If I hadn't driven into Sonoita I would have been inside too. It is already 28 outside at midnight so it's going to be below freezing for most of the night. I'm sleeping on a hope and prayer that we both don't have frozen pipes in the morning ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  4. Always majestic views in the grasslands with easy to get to interesting day trips all around. That drive to Montezuma's pass is a scenic one. We did it coming from the other way. I think I might have heard of some problems at the Montezuma end right now with so many illegals flooding across the border in that area. Maybe just a rumor.

  6. Brrrrr! Sorry for those cold temps. Crazy weather this year. The Empire Ranch looks like an interesting place to visit. So glad people see the need to save these for us to see how life evolved over periods of past times.

    1. Yes it was cold last night. Down to 21๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿฅถ They have done a great job of revitalizing the ranch and barns. Lots of work went into the project.

  7. SOOOO chilly!! Only 36 here this morning. I'm certainly tired of this COLD!!! Don't pick up any hitchhikers and you'll be fine. Border Patrol is in the area. Not as many as usual, but they are there. You are not going to believe the views you will see!! Have fun!!

  10. Does Yuma always jump when he knows he's going for a ride? I know he did here at Wellton. I thought he was just bored with us!
