Tour of Borrego Springs

Had a good rest last night after our trip yesterday and had a great breakfast.  We use paper plates and plastic utensils and cups which makes it easy to do dishes.  Since Dolly makes breakfast, my duty is to make the bed each morning.

After breakfast, we took the jeep into Borrego Springs for a little tour.  It’s about 7 miles further down into the canyon.
Before we got to town, we pulled into Roadrunner Club Homes to see what it would cost to buy one of their used plots with a mobile home on it.  Stopped at the sales office and George gave me a list of all the places for sale.  You don’t buy the land, just the mobile home.  There were two golf courses and you could play for $35 and didn’t have to be a member.  George said the monthly cost to live there was from $650 to $1200 a month depending what amenities you wanted and your utility habits.  Got their brochures and left (Forgot to take any pictures).

We drove around Christmas Tree Circle and we were in town. No stoplights in this little place.  Drove straight through and ended up on the west side against the mountains at the Anza-Borrego State Park campground.  There was a female ranger at the entry station.  She was very curt and wanted to know what our business was there.  I told her we were thinking of staying there and wanted to look around the place.  She gave me a 15 minute placard and told us not to stop anywhere as we went through.  Had to return the placard when we came out.  I felt bad, because Dolly and I stopped to take a couple pictures of the mountains, but she didn’t see us, so all was good.

We then went back east through town again and this time we stopped at the Chamber of Commerce and got gobs of info about the place.  Did you know the Kingston Trio is having a live concert here on March 2nd?  Maybe you’re too young to remember them.

As we headed home, we took a left on Henderson Canyon Drive to see what was down there and we ended up about a mile north of town on Borrego Springs Road and we had found the metal sculptures of creatures that roamed the valley millions of years ago that are dotted along the landscape.  Also more recent things too.

 

We then headed back home about 3 p.m. for a little rest and called it a day.  Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again and better for taking pictures.
