Jeep Ride to Palm Canyon

Thursday, March 2, 2017

My location:  Eight miles West of Bouse, Arizona just off Plomosa Road

This morning, I looked out the bedroom window and saw yesterday.  Not exactly, but the weather is just the same, maybe going to be a little warmer.

1-IMG_4741Went through our morning routines and around 11:15, Yuma and I was ready for a Jeep ride.  Very low on gas, so had to go into Quartzsite for sure.

Since I have to go the fifteen miles to town, we decided to keep on going right out the South end on hwy 95.  Our destination – Twenty miles South to Palm Canyon Road.

There is our destination.  This road leads right up to the entrance to the canyon.  You can see the white thread going into the dark area.  That is the canyon.

To the left of the canyon is more of the rugged Kofa Mountain range.

The map below points out the mountains we can see from the Sonoran Desert.

Yuma is raring to start climbing once we reach the end of the road.

The palm trees are way up high in a crevice in the mountain above the canyon floor.  Actually, the canyon is a large wash, with lots of rocks and boulders.

Looking out from the canyon at the road we came in on.

Tried to get the palm trees in the background, but didn’t work.  So, you just get me and Yuma.

Yuma managed to find another friend.

Lots of rocks and boulders.  Yuma had the best time running and jumping on the boulders after I took the leash off.  He wore me out today.

It was 4 o’clock by the time we got back to the RV.  Both of us were worn out from all the sightseeing and rock climbing we did today.  Time for more Tylenol.

See you later.

  1. Great pictures of the palm trees on the mountainside-especially the closeups. Yuma looked like he had a lot of fun running up and down the rocks. Such a pretty area.

  3. We were told about this climb and how neat to see the palm trees and stand between the mountains. We couldn't find the road to go in on and even looked when we came through on Tuesday. What is the name of the road? We'd love to do it next year when at the Q. Looks like you and Yuma had another great hiking day.

    1. Thanks. Saw your RV on the way but was so low on gas, I was afraid to go over there. You are well off the road.

    1. Thank you. Not yet. We're having cool weather in the low 70s. I may have to keep Yuma on a leash starting pretty soon though.

    1. Weeds in early March. Don't even think about that back in Illinois. Good exercise, just don't overdue it and take Tylenol for those sore joints.
