Remember Pearl Harbor and all the sacrifices our men and women made during World War II.
Somehow I lost a few pictures from yesterday so I will get them in now. I couldn't resist stopping at the rest area in Texas Canyon. Here are a few pics of the huge boulders found there.
Oh yes, last night was Gold Rush and I spent 2 hours trying to get my Dish Tailgater to work. Finally put it on the RVs roof and I got the channels. I guess the satellites are low in the southern sky. Luckily, I started early and didn't miss the show.
This morning I awoke around 6:30 and Yuma and I took a walk around the parking lot before making breakfast. Don't have check-out till 11 AM, so I took my time and read some blogs. It is a beautiful morning and promises to be a nice warm day in the mid seventies. I'll take it.
Last time I'll stop here.
Filled my water jugs and packed up and topped off my gas tank, then we headed west on hwy 86 around 11 AM. About 130 miles through Indian Reservation. I always like this drive because there isn't much traffic heading to Ajo, Arizona.
The road is mostly flat and passes by some pretty mountains. The first one is Kitt Peak National Observatory. Stopped at the entrance road to the top of the mountain to take a few pictures. I've been up there once before so didn't drive up today.
You can see the observatory way at the top.
Wavy and flat except for some curves, but I do enjoy the solitude.
Finally hit the dead-end at hwy 85 and took a right in Why towards Ajo. Passed Coyote Howls West and thought of George and Suzie. Wish they were here. I would stop in for a visit.
Turned left onto Old Darbys Road about five miles north on hwy 85 and after a mile or so of horrible dusty wash boardy road I found a place to park for a cou[le of weeks, I hope.
It has clouded up but still very warm at around 75. Yuma is checking out our new home.
After laying down and resting for an hour or so, Yuma and I took a little walk to check out our surroundings.
First picture of a Saguaro Cactus and my favorite Black Mountain in the background.
Had dinner around six and finished this blog at eight. Now it's time to call it a day.
See you later.
We like that area but didn't stop there this year. The weather wasn't looking nice when we passed through that area. Enjoy your time there!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb. Today will be cloudy but the rest of the week will be sunny and warm. Looking for a little relaxation.
DeleteHave a great time in Ajo! Any crested cactus pics to share?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, Jeff. Thought I saw one last night but was a lop top. Ready to relax now.
DeleteI was thinking about you this morning because I figured you would be making that favorite drive of mine between Tucson and Why Arizona. I always loved that stretch of road with countless Saguaros and surrounding mountain ranges. Yes that Darby Well road entrance is always a rough piece of road with it's washboarding and dry desert dust. Looking at your photos tonight they tugged at the traveling side of myself as I pretty well recognized right where you were in most of them.
ReplyDeleteLove that drive too. Went slowly and made several stops to listen to silence and a few wrens. I'm located at the rusty tower. Not in preferred spot but fairly close.
DeleteI thought I'd say, what beautiful photos! I love the saguaro and Black Mountain pic. I know how you love those wash boardy roads.😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. The road was horrible. Glad I didn't have to go more than a couple of miles.
DeleteGlad you & Yuma finally made it to Ajo. Such a beautiful warm place to settle in & be warm. 😎
ReplyDeleteThanks Moonfly. I hope one day soon you will be able to come this way.
DeleteBeautiful area. When we left Tucson we travelled that road. We really liked it. Hey.....I've watched Gold Rush since the very first episode. I like your taste in tv shows. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristi. Here anything about the job?
ReplyDeleteIf I work at something for two hours it has to be a good TV program. I've watched it forever. Wonder if the guys on the following show White Water will hit the motherlode.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a good place to park, the last two times we have checked out Darby Wells Rd all the good places were taken. Though on George's advice we parked at Coyote Howls East last time two years ago and we did like it there. We love that ride between Tucson and Ajo, also, looking forward to taking it in February as we slowly make our way east.
ReplyDeleteThe road was so as I pulled j to my normal road and parked first spot I found. There are two others here but have sufficient space. Should enjoy it here.
DeleteLove that drive to Why and we like CoyotoeHowls EAST no hookups and only $40. a week and free wifi and dum station etc right here a very nice spot , enjoy your time there in AJO we do love the area.
ReplyDeleteThanks George. Resting my bones today and hope to get out and start exploring tomorrow.
