Jeep and hike behind Saddle Mountain

Couldn't sleep well last night because my foot and ankle were killing me.  Somehow, I managed to irritate the nerve on the outside of my ankle and it throbbed most of the night.  After soaking and placing an Ace bandage on it for support I'm ready for another day.

Got up at sunrise, so I could get a few pictures of the sun hitting Saddle Mountain.  Sadly, they didn't come out as I had hoped.  Didn't really catch the golden morning glow.

Got a text from Dolly letting me know that our grandson, Lane has graduated from college in Orlando, Florida and his graduation will be streamed live tomorrow morning.

Nick went on a 7 mile run this morning trying to beat the heat of the day.  I stayed home and did the dishes and laid outside enjoying the morning air and mountain view.

At 2 o'clock I asked Nick if he wanted to see the canyon on the other side of Saddle Mountain.  Not easy to get to and unless you're a local or someone tells you about this beautiful canyon, you would never know it's there.

There is a fence that needs to be closed at all times except for entering and exiting the canyon.

With about a mile to the end of the canyon, the road became too rough for my poor body to handle, so we parked and walked.

South side of Saddle Mountain from the view we see at the RV.

Looking back to where we entered the canyon.

It was about here when Yuma started barking and Nick looked up and saw

a Big Horn Sheep staring at us.  There were two, but when Yuma frightened them, they took off in different directions.

I finally got in on the action and took a number of pictures too.

After 4 o'clock now and time to head home.  This is what we see at the end of the canyon.
Looking back towards the Jeep.

Made it home at 5 o'clock and shortly after, I had Yuma outside getting his monthly bath.  Well, maybe his two month bath 😁.

Had hotdogs as the sun set and now it is 9:30 and I'm calling it quits for the night.
Thanks for stopping by.

  1. So cool to see some big horned sheep. It's good thing Yuma kept his distance. He could have been in big trouble.😄 I'm so proud of Lane for graduating and starting a career that he's excited about. Poor Yuma. He was probably liking being free of baths.

    1. Glad this one stayed in view. Not many in this area. We were lucky. Yuma was filthy and he feels so much better now. Proud of Lane.

    1. Thanks Nancy. That made the long hike worth it. The pinched nerve is gone so now back to just two aching feet.😀

    1. Thanks Steve. It was amazing they stuck around with all the noise we were making. Ankle is much better even after that long hike.

  4. Nice Bighorn photos! I ran into a local back there a couple of years ago that was tracking cougar with his hounds, and he was out looking for one of his dogs that had gone missing.

    1. It is very rugged back there and so beautiful being right up to the base of the mountains. Didnt see any dog bones.

  5. Great shots of Bighorns in the wild. Certainly makes the trip to the canyon worth the effort.
Hope the ankle is feeling better.

  6. It's always a great piece of luck to see Big Horn Sheep and get photos of them as well. I like the looks of that canyon. Been to Saddle Mountain a couple times on Jeep day trips but have never boondocked there. We did overnight at that Tonopah RV Park one time though. Too bad about those aging aches and pains. I know where your coming from.

    1. Yes we were lucky. With all the noise we were making I'm surprised they stuck around. The RV park shut down. I think from the fly infestation but it is not bad now. Can't complain too much - still moving 😀
