Woke up to a beautiful sunny morning in the Casino Del Sol parking lot. It was very quiet and peaceful. If you’re ever going through Tucson, this is the place to stay, if you like free.
Yuma and I had breakfast and I ran the MH down the road for gas. It is $2.10 here and I’m sure it will be much more expensive if I waited and filled up in Why or Ajo. Came back and hooked up the Jeep and we were off around 10 A.M.
Looks like someone is taking the expensive way out of the parking lot!
Turned left out of the parking lot and I was heading west on Ajo Way which hooked up to Hwy 86 going the 130 miles to Ajo. Not a long one today. Hwy 86 goes through Indian country and the biggest town is Sells, an Indian community.
About 25 miles down the road I passed the entrance road leading to the Kitt Peak National Observatory. It sits high on Kitt Mountain overlooking this area. I didn’t drive up there today since I just did that about this time last year. Here is the link to that day.
The entire drive was uneventful and there was little traffic. I only drove around 55 mph so I could see everything and stop occasionally to take a photograph.
The haze on the mountains in the the distance made them look even prettier.
Came to a stop sign in Why, Arizona and hwy 86 dead ended into hwy 85. Took a right towards Ajo, ten mile up the road. If you go left you will go to Organ Pipe National Monument and then into Mexico.
Coming up to my turn-off at Darby Well Road. I can see the slag berm from the Ajo pit ahead of me. I’m flying on the wings of a bird now.
The camp I stayed at last year was taken so went on further on the dusty and wash board road for several miles till I found a secluded site just perfect for me. It was now after 2 P.M. and I’m starving.
First thing we did was fix a turkey sandwich with cheese and then setup camp. Pulled out the Dish and pointed it toward the southeast and got a hit the first try. Now I’m ready for Gold Rush tonight.
Then Yuma and I laid down till dusk and rested.
There is Black Mountain right outside my door with the setting sun shining on it.
It’s almost time for Gold Rush.
See you later.
Beautiful pics! That's the "real" Arizona. ☺ Black Mountain and the saguaros really stand out in the setting sun. So glad Yuma's getting some rest! Enjoy Darby Well Rod!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. Glad to be stopped for a week or so. Now I have some time to get things done. Warm here.
DeleteBeautiful pic of Black Mountain! Glad to hear you’ll be able to watch Gold Rush tonight! 😀❤️ Sleep well! Love you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah. After all the trouble I had last week with Dish, it was so nice to set it up and have it work first time.
DeleteIt was so quiet here last night. Yuma and I slept well. Love you.
Tom and I really like that area. Beautiful picture of Black Mountain and the Saguaros. Yuma certainly looks relaxed.
ReplyDeleteFinally boondocking. So glad to be settled down for a week or so. Going to take it easy today and rest up.
DeleteReally nice drive today - very scenic ! One of the best photos of Yuma ever - he seems so content - catching an afternoon snooze.
ReplyDeleteThanks Moonfly. He rested better than I did. Glad to be at my first boondocking site and can settle down.
DeleteNice easy drive, I like those kinds of days. Excellent pictures, love the sun on the mountains. Resting is always a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love the drive to Ajo from Tucson each year. Beautiful country. I'm glad to be boondocking for a week or so and can just relax and explore.
DeleteGlad you are back in a favourite spot Doug, and I look forward to seeing some of your interesting photos, and adventures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rawn. It is good to be here once again. Time to settle down for awhile.
DeleteThe scenery pictures are beautiful, but look what you've got to work with! Yuma seems to be enjoying himself..so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley. Yuma is a great dog. Patiently waits for me and then he is ready to go when I go outside.
DeleteI'm so glad to finally be able to boondock and take life easy.
