Palm Canyon Road

Monday, January 22, 2018 – Location:  Palm Canyon Rd

The play-offs are now over and Yuma can’t stand it here no more, so today is move day.  Not a long move; just about 60 miles north on hwy 95 towards Quartzsite.  

I was up at 6:30 this morning before the sun made its appearance.  Glad I did, because a cloud cover came in and there was no sunrise.

Ate cereal for breakfast and had OJ and half a grapefruit.  Was out the door at 9:30 to do some shopping at Walmart,  25 miles drive one way, so with a half hour in the store, we were back to the RV at 11 A.M.  I packed everything and hooked up the Jeep and at 12 P.M. we were heading up to the Imperial Dam LTVA to dump and take on water.  There was this beautiful small lake right across the road in a valley from where I was taking on water and couldn’t resist taking a few photos of it.

At 1 P.M., we were finally on our way.  Hwy 95 stays in the Sonoran desert and off to the east the Kofa Mountain Range is visible.

At 2:30 P.M., we had found our perfect spot about half a mile south of Palm Canyon Road.  No one around and no dust.   And no shooting or booming sounds.  Yuma is one happy dog to be here.  No fear of going outside at all.

We unloaded and got all set up around 2:30 and I was starving.  Made a ham sandwich and some tea with cookies for desert.  Of course, Yuma eats about a third of everything.  He just loves those crunchy chocolate cookies.

And then it was lay outside in the sun time.  On the sunny side of the RV it is nice and warm, but on the shady side there is a cool north wind and it feels a little chilly.  It is amazing the difference in temperature between Yuma and Quartzsite even though they are only 60 miles apart.  I know I will feel it when it gets down into the high thirties tonight.

You can tell Yuma is happy to be outside.  No more cowering inside the MH for Yuma now.



I know Quartzsite and the surrounding long term areas are jam-packed, but just 20 miles south, I am in a world of quiet and solitude.  Just the way I like it.  I can drive up into the madhouse and leave it behind again.

I have been to Palm Canyon every year I’ve been traveling out here.   It is a beautiful mountain in the Kofa mountain range.   The reason for the name is because there are palm trees growing high on the canyon wall within the mountain.  You will see photos of them when I drive up to the canyon in the next day or so.

This moving is very tiring for me, so I’m going to fix me and Yuma some dinner and call it a night.
