Metal sculptures

Wednesday, February 7, 2018 – Location:  Clark Dry Lake near Borrego Springs, CA.

Last night I had a big piece of that delicious apple pie.  Had to call Dolly so she could tell me what to do to heat the pie.  Wasn’t sure if I heated the whole pie or just cut a piece and heat it.  Well she straightened me out.  I cut a piece and put it in the oven for around 10 minutes at 250 degrees.  It came out warm and delicious.  Now, I just need some vanilla ice cream and it will be perfect.  Won’t take long if I eat portions that size each time.

This morning felt cooler slightly because of the nice breeze.  Laid around and slowly fixed breakfast.  Was going to have another piece of that apple pie, but was so full from eating a huge grapefruit, I just wasn’t hungry.

Around noon, Yuma and I decided we would hit a few of the many metal sculptures they have around Borrego Springs.  Today, we went to the ones on the north side of town out on Borrego Springs Road.  I think these are the neatest ones because of the serpent.

The drive out Henderson Road is always beautiful!

Everyone seems to have beautiful photos of roadrunners; but not me!  Whenever, I see one cross the road, it’s gone before I can stop and get my camera ready.  Today, I finally get my chance and what does that bird do?  It stops for his photo opt right in the shade.  Took a photo and then tried to get it to move into the sunlight, but instead it just ran off into the trees and disappeared.  See that smirk?  Hopefully, I’ll get another chance this winter.

Got home early and played with a new image editor that has not been working right.  I spent some time figuring out why and got it to work properly.  Doesn’t really improve the photos that much, but it does have some bells and whistles that I want to learn someday.

With that done, I made a quick run down the hill to see if Deb and Riley were home and they were.  We had a nice visit for about an hour.  They may be leaving in the morning, but haven’t quite made up their minds yet.   I think Yuma is smitten with Riley.  She actually plays with him so that makes him happy.

The breeze continued all day and made it feel much nicer.  Nice to have a relaxing day and not be in such a hurry in the evening getting dinner ready and working on my blog.

That was our day.  Time for dinner and another big piece of pie.  Kicking myself for forgetting to get some ice cream today when I was in town.  Wonder if it is worth driving twenty miles for tonight?

See you later.

  6. What a great day. Those sculptures are fantastic and we too enjoyed them today. I think you were there first though!!!

That apple pie looks wonderful. I can see how one piece would fill you up. Glad Dolly straightened you out about how to heat it up. Depending on the type of ice cream, yep the drive would be worth it.

Great to visit again. Thanks for stopping by. I think you may be right about Yuma being smitten with Riley. She likes him too.

    1. Thanks Deb. We've got to stop following each other around.

Enjoyed our visit. Glad Yuma and Miss Princess didn't get together. Yuma was interested.

      No ice cream last night.😔

  7. Those scupltures are amazing. We definitely need to see those one day.
We saw a roadrunner 'very' briefly once. They are very tricky to get standing still.

    1. Thanks Dave. You two need to make it over here. Lots to see and do.

I see the roadrunners running across the road quite often, but hard to get a photo of one. Too fast!

  9. Roadrunner is New Mexico state bird - he wants a piece of pie crust. I especially like the long distance lengthwise photo of the serpent - looks like he is swimming thru all those trees/greenery - reminds me of Nessie the Loch Ness monster ! Glad Riley and Yuma enjoy playing together - and yes, it is worth driving 20 miles for ice cream - pie looks delicious !

    1. Thanks Moonfly. I'm feeling guilty with all the yes votes for ice cream and I didn't go get it. Hopefully today.

Took lots of pictures of the serpent. I think it is so cool coming through the sand and under the road.

  11. Your piece of pie looks adequate and the pie should last you for 6 desserts with ice cream, of course! :)
Your roadrunner picture looks good to me and I love the broken fence pictures.
How nice to visit with Deb and Riley, Clemson was curious about Riley too but he never sits still for long. Thanks for the post.

    1. You're welcome. Wish the roadrunner would have stopped in the sunlight. I thought the fences looked neat. Al has good photos of old fences so thought I would give it a try.

The pie is good. At least after a TV dinner the pie fills me up. Great dessert.😴🤗

  12. Hi Doug! Based on my experience from watching cartoons, I always thought Road Runners were bigger! :) I always love the metal sculptures! They are so cool! Hope you get some ice cream today! I love you!

    1. I'm sure I'll get the ice cream today. Roadrunners are pretty big as far as birds go, but not as big as the beep beep one on TV.

Glad you liked the sculptures. Love you, Jim and Keats 😘

  13. Love the close up of the Roadrunner. The sculptures look great as well. Hoping someday we'll see them.
Ice Cream and Hot Apple Pie just go together.
    Be Safe and Enjoy

    It's about time.

  14. I really like how you parked your jeep by that sculpture. Really gives the viewer a good perspective of the size.
We have not seen a Roadrunner at all yet this year...I am jealous, even if it did pose in the shade.
That is why there is always a can of Reddiwhip in our fridge, for those emerergecies when ice cream is not available...lol
