Tuesday, February 20, 2018 – Location: Saddle Mountain near Tonopah, Arizona
Last night the temperature was to drop to around 34 degrees. Colder than back home. Oh well, guess I can’t everything all the time. Anyway, I was prepared. When I first bought the MH I made insulated inserts for all the windows in the MH.
Last night I used them for the first time. They did great! Kept the cold on the window panes from radiating into the MH. At 5:30, I turned on the Wave heater and the place remained warm till the sunshine could do its job.
This morning, because of the inserts, it was very dark in the bedroom, so didn’t get up till after 8 o’clock. When I got up, my body told me two days of climbing and acting like a kid wasn’t going to happen today. The mind was willing but the body says “NO!”
I slowly started moving and grabbed a bowl of cereal and laid back on the bed for awhile. Yuma was content to just lay there also. I think he was tired too. Oh, by the way! Yesterday was Yuma’s third birthday! Still just a pup.
Later in the morning, Yuma wanted to go outside, so we sat in front of the MH out of the cool light breeze in the warm sunshine. Even though it wasn’t even 50 degrees yet, the sun felt so warm. This is what I’m looking at as I rest in my lounge chair.
All of a sudden, Yuma jumps up and runs around the MH and I yelled for him to come back, thinking someone was walking up the road.
Sure enough, two people were. Deb and Riley, On a long and lonesome highway…. were walking up with plans to visit and to go see the petroglyphs that are just a short distance up the road from me.
Pulled out a couple of chairs, thanks to Lorne, A place called “Away” for holding onto my chair for over a year until we could get together again. Otherwise, I would have had to stand.
We chatted for awhile, enjoying the nice warm sun. No wind today thank goodness. So quiet up here. No sound except for an occasional Cactus Wren. I knew exactly where the petroglyphs were, so when they were ready to go in search, I offered to make it easy for them and walk with them right to place. So, that’s what we did. And they were still there.
Deb wanted to see if there were more higher up, so she walked up the mountainside. Me and Riley stayed below. Today, even a small climb would be too much. She didn’t find any new ones.
The petroglyphs are on the boulders scattered around on the mountainside. I believe at one time they were located on the wall above. Time and weather crumbled the wall and the boulders came tumbling down.
After Deb and Riley left, Yuma and I bounced from the chair outside to the bed inside. I really needed the rest. I did manage to get the dishes done and burn the trash so the day wasn’t completely wasted.
Ate a sandwich for dinner and that helped me to feel better. As nice as today was, I hope I’m ready to go tomorrow, because once the cool morning is gone, it will be a beautiful day too.
See you later.
It's always good to have a relaxing day to recharge. I'm sure you enjoyed seeing Deb & Riley again. Yuma must have been ready to rest, too, since he wasn't eager to go jeepin'. Have a good night, before tomorrow's adventures! ❤ Btw, what a beautiful cacti!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. I really needed a day off. As tired as I am tonight it may be two days rest. I think I wore out Yuma too. Good night.😘
DeleteThere was a bit of snow in Julian last night - Whoot-Whoot I think that makes this SoCal's second day of winter! Stay warm and enjoy those sunny days and a few more trails.
ReplyDeleteFinally got some snow. Late this year. Got down to 30 here last night. That's enough of that. The 60s are nice for getting out and about.
DeleteDeb does look good in that chair!! Glad you had it.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you she didn't have to stand on that sore knee 😂.
DeleteNice that you had the visitors and got out to show them the sights. Now best relax and get treated up. Glad the window insulators helped. We have dual pane windows which are really nice..
ReplyDeleteThanks George. Had a nice day with a small walk about to show the ladies some petroglyphs.
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday Yuma!!! I'm glad you two had a nice relaxing day of rest! And it always makes the heart happy to be able to sit and chat with friends. :) Have a wonderful day today! I love you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah. The day did go fast. Love you!
DeleteYou're in a great spot to soak up some sunshine while enjoying beautiful views all around you. After you get some bacon & eggs and coffee - Yuma will look longingly at the Jeep - and off you'll go. 🌵🌷🐢🐕🌞
ReplyDeleteThanks Moonfly. Gave away your name to Al the other day ☺. Today is waffles and then we'll be off. Cold last night. 30 for a low. Probably colder than you were.
DeleteHa ! Yes. My blogger account is old and I can't even figure out how to change the photo/icon. My name shows when I sign in but apparently not when clicked on ? It's a computer glitch thingy ! 😳😁😱
DeleteNo wonder Yuma has so much energy! Happy Birthday cutie! That was nice that you were able to show Deb and Riley the petroglyphs! Can't wait to see where your adventure takes you today, as you've probably had enough of sitting..haha.
ReplyDeleteProbably right. Think it will be a Jeep ride day. Still sore.
DeleteWish I had Yumas energy. We would go to the tops of those mountains.
Thanks for the tour Doug, we enjoyed it very much. The visit was very peaceful and relaxing, thanks for the chatter.
ReplyDeleteYuma is such a prince, always leading the way!!
gs...
Glad you took the day off and just rested. That's what we are going to do today, although I think we may head out for a short drive.
Then I'm going to putter away in the afternoon doing some 'make busy' things.
Thanks again for the visit and the tour!!
You're very welcome. Glad you two stopped by. That was a long walk between the two sites, but you two were up to it. Me. Not so much😎.
DeleteSounded like you needed to catch up on some rest! When the weather is warm here it has been rainy, windy or both. Enjoy the sun and warmth! Take care Dad. Love you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. Overdid it a bit. A little rest and I'll be good as new.
ReplyDeleteBe careful in that ice today. I've fallen enough for the both of us 🙂.
Love you!
What a nice surprise to have Deb and Riley stop by.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a day of not moving a lot is good for the soul not to mention the body.
Even on a day of rest you managed some great pictures.
P.S. Tom was wondering what you made the insulated inserts out of?
Thanks Deb. I bought reflective insulation panels and cut to size. Then I covered the cut edges with fancy silver duct tape 😂. Got them at one of the big box hardware stores.
ReplyDeleteThe panels are similar to those put on windshields to keep sun off dashboard.
