Moved again and visit with new friends

Friday, February 2, 2018 - Location:  Clark Dry Lake near Borrego Springs, California

I knew last night when I went to bed that I wasn't completely happy with my new location, so this morning first thing, I walked around and found one at the park boundary line that gives me a perfect view of the Santa Rosa Mountains to my north with no one in my view.

Moved the 500 feet or so and now I'm happy.
Had bacon and eggs for breakfast then Yuma and I walked around the area a little bit and just rested.  Temperature got warm in a hurry.  High of 84 today they say, so didn't want to do too much.

Around 1:30, Yuma was whining wanting to go somewhere.  He doesn't care, he just wants to go.  I knew I wanted to find a place to watch this Sunday's Superbowl.  I had checked my Local TV antenna and got five Mexican channels, so that was a no go.

So, we hopped in the Jeep and headed for Borrego Springs about ten miles down the road.

First, we went to Christmas Circle so Yuma could sniff around in real green grass and look at other dogs.  Beautiful little park with a drive around circle three lanes wide.

Across the street from the circle, I took photos of these two very realistic metal sculptures.  There are hundreds of metal sculptures around Borrego Springs, but that's for another day.

Then we googled the American Legion and found that it was about four miles south of town.  Been by the road that leads to it many times, but never went down it.  Easy to find.

As we were heading there, passed by a beautiful golf course I would enjoy playing with the kids.  All that green grass in the desert.

With all the money I have I could buy this beautiful house near by.  For five years I have driven by it and it has always been sitting vacant.  I'm sure there is a story behind why.

There's the Legion.  Nice place.  When I walked up one of the many doors in the place, there was no one around.  All locked up.  Darn!  Then I went around back and there was a man there.  He asked me if he could help me.  Introduced himself as Bill.  Guess he was on duty.

I asked him what it took to stay at their RV park and he said I had to be a veteran.  I asked him if a DD214 would be proof that I was a veteran and he said certainly.  I just happen to have a photo of mine in my cellphone.  Doesn't everybody carry their DD214 with them?

Then I asked Bill if they would be having the Superbowl on TV Sunday and he said, they were having a big shindig with food and everything available on Sunday.   Do I need to stay at the RV park?  Nope.  Just show up.  What a deal!  Thank you, Al (Travel With The Bayfield Bunch) for cluing me in on the Legion.  I never knew it was there before.
After leaving, I decided to run by Deb and Riley's place on the way home to see if they were there.  And sure enough they were!  We had a great time chatting and sharing stories.  This is their first time here and they've got lots of places to explore during their visit.  Amazing how time flies when visiting fellow bloggers.  Deb's blog is "On a long and lonesome highway....".  I think the sun was kinda bright behind me.  They were almost blinded by the light.

On the way home, I heard a racket and thought there was a motorcycle coming up from behind.  Looked around and saw this guy flying right over me and Yuma.

Got home around 5:30 and looked at my text message asking me if I was ready for Gold Rush?  Oh my gosh, I had forgotten all about it and was working on my new post.  Had to rush and get the Dish up and running and was happy to find it wasn't on till 7 P.M. here in California.  Perfect.  Had an hour to work on my blog.  Got the satellite hooked onto the Dish on the very first try.  That was great too!

Finishing my post while watching Gold Rush and fixing a TV dinner.  Retirement is so relaxing.  Yea, right!

See you later.

  1. Glad you found a more private spot. I hope someone doesn't move in and spoil your view. It's nice to meet people on the road, that you have something in common with. Great pictures of the area. Loved the stage coach sculpture! Have a good night. ❤

  2. Love the view, we'll have to drop by and check it out. Thanks for coming to visit, we both enjoyed meeting you and Yuma, feel free to drop in anytime.

We too heard the Ultra Light and I mentioned it probably flew right over you. He looked pretty low, I figured he was going to land over there somewhere. We didn't see him any more.

    1. Thanks Deb. Enjoyed my visit and getting to know you and Riley better. Stop by anytime.

The ultralight flew on down to the dry lake and landed. Scared me not knowing where the sound was coming from.

  3. I"ve no doubt you'll enjoy the game at the Legion. Certainly sounded like Al and Kelly enjoyed their stay there. How nice that you saw Deb and Riley..the world is so big yet so small..Interesting that the house is still empty five years later. The ultralight is pretty cool! Great picture.

  4. Sounds like you are gonna have some great food and lots of fun at the Super Bowl shindig ! That American Legion seems to be a good touchstone for information, eats, and just hanging out in Borrego Springs.

    1. You're right Moonfly. Should learn a lot about this area from these guys. May even learn why that beautiful house has been vacant all these years.

  6. One of our favorite views is the Santa Rosa Mountains. We are "planning" on seeing it in the next couple of weeks. That is our kind of parking space, one that says no parking beyond this point.
Sounds like you will have a fun time watching the Super Bowl. We will definitely be checking out the American Legion when we get there.
Nice that you got a chance to meet Deb and Riley we met them briefly but are hoping we cross paths again down the road and have a chance to sit and chat.

Had a great time meeting and getting to know Deb and Riley. Two visits in one Winter. That's amazing. I'll have to learn to be sociable again.😎
