Almost Ready to Leave

Bought new glasses and got a pair of Ray-Bans too.  Been a long time since I've had a pair of prescription sunglasses.

Been slowly moving forward.  Last week I took the White Lion to have the front shocks replaced and added new front tires.  That was an expensive visit.   On the way home stopped by and had it washed so it will look nice for my journey.

Finished setting up my new Jeep brake assist and it is ready for the road.  Haven't tested it yet.

Slowly packing the MH and Dolly bought $500 worth of food and meat so I'm good to go on food for awhile.  Leaving the 28th.  Next week I have my doctor visit and Thanksgiving, so will be busy.

The Covid ID (call it this because we watch the Discovery ID channel so much) is hitting close to home now.  Three of the girls working in the same place as my son Jim have tested positive and Jim is waiting on his test results.  He has no symptoms, thank goodness.

They are asking for no travels this holiday so the roads should not be too crowded.   I have decided to follow the interstates and stay at the rest areas along the way.  I will have a full fridge and will only need to stop at rest stops and for diesel fills.

With this plan I hope to travel longer distances each day.  The White Lion loves to gallop and don't have to worry about towns and two-way traffic.  I also plan to take longer breaks to keep from getting tired.  I will be able to travel after dark with only four lane roads to worry about.

Nervous about all the uncertainty this year but the call of the desert is strong.  The weather is looking good next week so that's a good sign.  Got to a beautiful 62 with sun and no wind today.  Can't beat that this late in the Fall.

See you later.

    1. Yes I did. Been a year since my last haircut. Cut it off when I get my Covid ID vaccination.

  3. Awesome winter beard!! Any RV repair seems to be costly nowadays. Have a good trip, take your time ... there's lot of cool stuff to see. You would think the highways would be empty, but lots of people are still out and about. Looking forward to seeing you and Yuma this winter.

    1. I remember laughing at the old bearded man with long gray hair at the ghost town we visited. Now I'm that man! Have to remember to take it slow. Have nothing but time.

  4. RV Maintenance and Repairs are always expensive unless you do them yourself. Better being Safe then Sorry.
With the International Borders closed we'll be traveling through your Blog this winter.
Traveling during daylight hours is always the safest and most scenic time to travel.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. You're right Rick. I've never driven after dark and the more I think about it, I enjoy the late afternoon relaxing so I think I'll go slower. The weather is looking good with no fronts coming too.

  5. Looking good there Doug! Glad you'll be on your way soon, but I agree with Rick you don't need to travel in the dark..daytime is so much better. Too much stress for me driving after dark with these old eyes! Look forward to seeing you!

  6. Be safe. It's good to be well stocked up on groceries. It's been in the high 80's. Next week we will be in the high 70's and that's nice weather too. Hope to see you and Yuma!

  7. Tom and I did both back roads and Interstates this year. We watched the news to be sure nothing was happening where we were headed and we always felt safe. The nice part of traveling like we all do, you in your White Lion us in our Stinger "B", is we have everything we need with us. It is a different type of year though no denying it. Looking forward to crossing paths at some point. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Dolly. Safe travels.

  9. Arizona awaits you and Yuma. Bring your own TP though... we were well stocked here until first flock arrived and within hours the shelves were emptied. Sad...

    1. Thanks MCA. Cannot believe people hoard TP. I am well supplied though. Be there early next week :).

  11. Wow! Look at you! A true bushman look, sure you're not headed to Alaska? Ha ha. You get into the hot temperatures Elva is speaking about and you may be cutting it off. :)
Travel carefully and stay safe. Sounds like Dolly has you well stocked up and the rest is up to you. Take your time and enjoy the ride! We are sooooo envious.

  12. I'm getting excited to leave. Always feel a little nervous when getting ready but once I start it will be gone. Dolly has completely filled the fridge so I don't have to make any grocery stops along the way. Be thinking of my Canadian friends.
