Ride through the grasslands

Again I woke up before the sun and just rested in bed reading news and blogs until around 8 o'clock and then I was up to start my day.  Welcome to Spring everyone!  Winter is now officially gone๐Ÿ˜€

There are lots of people around and I can hear generators and kids playing.  By the time Yuma and I headed over to Tom and Deb's place the 4 wheelers were starting to wake up and begin moving around.

The weather was perfect to start our day.  Sunny and warm already with a high in the mid-seventies later today.  We sat out and enjoyed the morning until it was time to head back to fix the rest of my breakfast.  Today I was hungry and had 4 slices of bacon and 3 fried eggs.  That should do me till dinner.

We decided we would take our Jeeps on a ride through the grasslands beginning at 2 o'clock this afternoon.  I had driven this canyon road a number of years ago and knew it would be a full afternoon ride and it was!

We started out on Oak Canyon Road heading west and we followed that for several miles.

We then made a turn onto North Canyon Road that would lead us into the heart of the grasslands.
This road would lead us in a circle along the ridges of the canyon and eventually down to the bottom of the canyon near the Cienegas Creek and back to our site.  Took us about three hours to make the trip.

Below are pictures of the scenery as we drove along.

We did not meet one person on our drive until we got near the end at the creek and at this time we met some 4 wheelers coming from another canyon road.  Unfortunately, we did not see one animal either.  I was hoping for a Pronghorn or Mule Deer sighting but not to be.

It was close to 5 o'clock when we got back to camp and we sat around and chatted until a little after 6 o'clock when it was time to call it a day and begin our dinners.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. The drive through the grasslands is very pretty. It must be a very interesting day trip through the canyon roads. It's too bad you saw no animals. Probably the ATVers scared them away. Happy Spring!

  2. It was a very nice ride and your pictures captured it beautifully. It would have been nice to see some wildlife as that would have been as the saying goes "the frosting on the cake".๐Ÿ˜Š I wonder if Dolly is right about the ATVer's scaring the animals away.

  3. Guess the pronghorn know the weekend schedule of the off-roaders :)
Still looks like a beautiful drive thru the back-40 of the Grasslands.

  4. Rats!!! I forgot to ask about your map program. Beautiful country. I'm surprised there weren't any pronghorn about. No ATV's is a good thing!!

  5. Great pictures of beautiful scenery.
The Wildlife tend to hide when they hear ATVs.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

  6. What beautiful pictures! I love the one with the windmill! Definitely a great afternoon for a ride and checking out the scenery. I imagine most of the ATVS are gone as of this afternoon and you can enjoy the week with animal spotting :)
