This morning I made it to 8:30 before Yuma jumped off the bed and demanded I get up. We again had a lazy morning resting in the sunshine.
We could hear the voices of two of our neighbors wafting across the wash loudly discussing their political views. No gunshots, so I guess they got their points across ๐
Around 11:30 we all jumped in the Jeep and headed for the old Darby Well Cemetery.
I go there every year and it is always the same. Lots of color and love in a beautiful setting. This year though, they have added a flag. Very nice touch. After leaving the cemetery, we headed towards the Ajo and North Ajo Peaks hoping to climb one or the other. Unfortunately, all roads don't lead to either one of them, so we just wandered aimlessly following a 4wd Jeep road known as West Alley Road.
The road does circle both peaks but at a distance. Didn't really matter, we just drove up and down, around and through washes for a couple of hours at a rate of about 5 mph.
The road was getting a little rugged at this point and we stopped to view our surroundings. We thought we were miles from anyone and then we heard voices. A young couple and their dog came up out of the wash below on mountain bikes. Kind of deflated our egos a bit. Them peddling through this horrible so called road and we're toughing it out in the Jeep ๐Nick decided to tackle the big hill or small mountain you see behind the Jeep while Yuma and I waited in the Jeep.Didn't take him long to get to the top and look down at me. Here are some views he saw from above.
Black Mountain and just a sliver of the pit tailings way off in the distance. |
Mexico way to the south about 30 miles. |
See the couple with the poor doggie following behind way below Nick? |
Giving me a thankful look. |
Time to finish this post and have a little dessert and watch TV for a bit before calling it a night.
Sounds like a wonderful day. It must be warm, if Nick is climbing mountains/hills without a shirt. I'm surprised Yuma didn't want to see the top, too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Yuma! It's hard to brevet your 8 years old! I always love the peace and beauty of that cemetary.
ReplyDeleteIt was a warm day. Cooling down for a few days though. Thanks for reminding me of Yuma's 8th birthday.
DeleteThose mountain bikers were probably wishing they had your Jeep!!! Beautiful hummer!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the little dog does. ๐
DeleteLove that sunset picture! Cool old cemetery! Looks like it was a great day for cruising around the desert!
ReplyDeleteDoing a lot of desert cruising. Nick will be sick of jeep roads soon.
DeleteIt doesn't take long for the hummers to show up. Always a fun visit from them.
ReplyDeleteGlad they enjoy the drink. I always look forward to them.
DeleteThat Cemetery is beautiful. Such thought put into them using nature and local artifacts. Ours back home are way too modernized.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot of the hummer, mine are very far and few between.
Thanks Patsy. The cemetery looks like a Mexican cemetery should look like. Colorful.
DeleteI love that cemetery! Great picture of the hummingbird, they're so cute! Nick is brave going up there, I'd be worried about snakes!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley. Omg! I forgot to remind him of snakes. That hummingbird has no fear of me.

ReplyDeleteThat sunset picture is absolutely gorgeous.
Looks like that was a great place to explore..
Much love !
Thank you Tracie. Lots to do here and will take us awhile. I hope Nick is having a good time. Seems to be.
DeleteHi neighbor! Good to meet you the other day. We didn't realize there was a cemetery back there so now we'll have to go check it out!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Sara. Glad you checked out my blog and found out about the cemetery.
DeleteLots of familiar spots. Great sunset picture and I recognized 'Steamboat Rock'. I think it maybe goes by a few other names as well. I've always liked that cemetery too. It's just a great area for scenery all around there.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would recognize the area. I call it locomotive rock. We had a really rough 4 whl drive on that so called road.
DeleteHere is something you two can do that you might find interesting. If you go the front of the first hill it is mostly picked out but the back of it is loaded with the marbles.

I have seen the marbles lying around the cemetery. They placed them in vases on the plots, but they would get blown over and end up everywhere.
