It was silent last night. No wind and no interstate noise. I think we're going to like it here in the badlands. It was before 8 o'clock and Yuma wanted outside, so we took a quick walk. Then I laid back down till 9 o'clock. Happy February 1st everyone. Can't believe I'm half way through my southwest adventure already! 😲
Called Jim to talk about polarity. I'm cutting plugs and pushing wires through small holes and then splicing back together. Plus I will be cutting the fridge electric cord and I have no idea which side is hot and which side is neutral.
I went over my plans with Jim and he immediately saw big problems with it and suggested I place a plug on the cut fridge cord going into the fridge and have the two inverters wired one to each of the two plug wall receptacle. He sent me a U Tube video of how to do it.
It's amazing how much I don't know at my age and my son Jim is having to explain how electricity works to his old man!😲 After a quick breakfast I got right to work wiring my two solar systems to the wall receptacle I bought.
After nine hours of electrical work I have the project up and running 😀 Would have taken a qualified electrician maybe two hours, but I sure did learn a lot. Still not too old to learn new things. 😁
I said I have the fridge working but tomorrow I have to do the finishing work to make it look good. Too tired today.
What you see is a two plugin wall receptacle and each female is wired to a different inverter. The plug comes from the fridge electrical input cord. When I plug the fridge into the first female it is running off the 1500 watt inverter and if I plug it into the female it is currently plugged into I am using my 600 watt inverter two battery solar system. The fridge is the only thing being used on this 600 watt system.
It is my hope that the 600 watt system will keep the fridge cool all night and I will use the 1500 watt system to run the fridge all day. Tonight is the big test and I will let you know tomorrow how it works. 😕
The day started out with a slight breeze and fairly sunny skies but as the day went along, it clouded and the breeze from the north became chilly. Still in the 60s but the wind chilled me as I worked outside all day.
Nick didn't want to stay around and hold tools for me all day so he took the Jeep and went down to Salton City to take a look around and walk down to the Salton Sea. The pictures below are from his new Kodak PixPro camera I gave to him as an early birthday present. He's planning to create a blog named Nick's Pics, but not tonight.
Nick couldn't get to the water because the beach is not sand but a stinky, soggy and mucky sludge! 😖 But there is some interesting things laying around.
Nick then walked around the abandoned buildings along the beach and took pictures of the graffiti everywhere. Some of it is pretty good. 😉
Hopefully, your new power system will give you the results you're hoping for. It would be nice not to have to worry about the fridge during the night. Interesting pictures Nick got around the Salton Sea. It is a smelly area.😃 The camera you got Nick seems to take sharp pictures. I don't blame him for not wanting to hold tools! Hope it warms up for you.
ReplyDeleteThe power distribution system worked great. The camera is better than mine. Hoping Nick keeps taking pictures and starts a blog to show them off.
DeleteExcellent Pictures Nick. Keep taking them. I am so enjoying your adventures Doug, Yumma and Nick.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda. Glad you're able to tag along. I'm hoping Nick enjoys taking pictures and starts a blog to display them.
DeleteHope your new power system works. Sounds way too complicated for me!! The Salton Sea is a thing to behold. Glad Nick got to take a peek at it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy. It worked great except for me not remembering which plugin was which 😀. Old man syndrome. The graffiti is nice, the sea not so much 😀
DeleteI see what you are doing now, and I sure hope it works...just gotta remember to plug the fridge into the right place each morning and night.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Dave. Very first night I messed that up. Thought it was on the 600 inverter and turned off the 1500. Fridge was off for an hour before I realzed it 😁 Going to have to mark them.
DeleteGreat pictures Nicks. Salton City seems to be actually reviving. but the many towns along the sea are not.
ReplyDeleteGood work with the inverters Doug. Hope your new power distribution system works out the way you need it to.
Thanks Jeff. I hope they can do something with the Salton Sea. It needs help desperately. I think isolating the fridge power will so wonders. Now I control it instead of it controlling the power. 😊
DeleteThank you Nick for the pictures! Now I know I never need to go to the Salton Sea LOL. Nine hours..wow! You are a determined man! Looking forward to Nick's blog!
ReplyDeleteThe Salton Sea is a disappointment right now. Hope it can be revived. I am slow and still make mistakes. The fewer the better when dealing with electricity 😀
DeleteI still say Good luck on that project. you lost me at polarity. teehee.
ReplyDeleteGood for Nick getting out (while he could) and going to Salton Sea. It is stinky but he got some interesting pictures. I rather enjoyed the @poetrybyBoots. :)
Looking forward to Nick's blog as well.
All I know about polarity is electricity is like a two-way highway. Positive and negative have to stay in their lanes or there will a problem 😀
DeleteI'm hoping Nick follows thru and starts a picture blog.
Well it took 9 hours but you did it. That's awesome. Since yesterday we have also dealt with a strong North wind. Makes the weather a little cool. It's been many many years since we have traveled thru the Salton Sea area. I'm looking forward to more pictures. Elva
ReplyDeleteThanks Elva. Yes and it is working great so far. A real test tonight with a full day of sunshine on the solar panels. No outside today with this howling wind.
DeleteWell, you know a heck of a lot more about electricity than I do. When the light switch is up the lights are on and when it's down the lights are off and that is about the extent of my electricity knowledge. Some nice compositions on those photos Nick.
ReplyDeleteThanks Al. If I called an expert for each of the problems I've had this winter I would be broke 😄
DeleteHi guys I love the pictures nick took. I love all the pictures you guys send.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well and I miss you guys
Take care of our boy love yall
Thank you Tracie. We're having fun and I'm trying to keep Nick out of trouble.
DeleteI will certainly follow Nicks Pics!!! He is good with a camera!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorne. If I can get him to do it.
DeleteCan’t wait to follow Nicks Pics!
ReplyDeleteIm still waiting on him😀
