Had a good night's sleep even though it was a little warm. Got up a little later this morning since no one is working at Midway Diesel today. Decided on a different breakfast this morning. Instead of crackers with peanut butter and cheese, I fried two eggs and toasted two pieces of bread in the skillet with butter and had an egg sandwich. Topped it off with cereal and a banana. Before breakfast I tested my glucose level and it was 140 which was high for a fasting level. May have been those three Oreo cookies dipped in whipped cream that did it.😌 I normally only have one but I slip occasionally.
Last evening, Dolly texted saying she was having problems with the bedroom TV. She worked on it but to no avail and finally she decided to contact Dish for help this morning. They helped her and she is now good to go. 😀
Today is "Spring forward" back home so they lost an hour and now two hours ahead of us since Arizona does not recognize Daylight Savings Time so no change here.
Today, we are heading to the Eloy airfield for Nick's third tandem skydiving jump. Poor Yuma knows something is afoot. He is afraid he may be left at home.
Beautiful picture of my traveling buddies! We decided to head over early at 12:15 and see what was going on. I must say this is one busy place.
There is a plane full of jumpers going up at least every hour. We went in early and it was too early for Nick to sign in. The young lady at the desk asked if we were jumping together. For some reason, I asked if there was room for another jumper and she said there was. Without thinking, I said "sign me up!" What have I done? Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane has never been on my bucket list.
I think the longest part of the activity was the contract we had to get through basically giving up all my rights to sue anyone associated with the organization. They wanted us to really know we were risking our lives doing this! Too late to back out now. Don't want to be known as a wimp back home.
After signing our lives away, they sent us outside to wait for our jumping partners.
The shortest activity was the training to jump. Maybe five minutes of getting to know your tandem buddy. I was paired with Franck, a Frenchman. I didn't know it was me he was calling for when he yelled out "Duuuglas." I think he was hoping to be paired with one of the young ladies based on his flirting and boisterous style.
He put my harness on me and quickly went over my part in this jump. He reminded me of me, so I was a little nervous he may get distracted and forget something vital, like his parachute😁. Keeping things positive, I didn't let him know of my concerns.
|Me and my tandem buddy, Franck.|
Had to take one last picture before departing the airfield.
That was really an exciting day you all had! Except for poor Yuma, that is. Are you ready to repeat your experience? Frenchman Franck looks like a good jumping buddy. Great pics of you and Nick at the airfield.ReplyDelete
It was exciting. I'm not interested in ever doing it again. Franck was a lot of fun. Are you interested in a jump? Sure Nick would love to go with you. I'll watch and take pictures.😃Delete
You crazy dude! That's awesome! I was laughing so hard I walked to the office to tell Jerry what you had done. I completely forgot Jerry isn't here....lol lol lol. My daughter and grandson have jumped and they both loved it. Again....congratulations. ElvaReplyDelete
Thank you, Elva. The only reason I did it was to prove to Dolly I'm not a wimp chicken 😊. Plus to give her a chance at a big life insurance payout 😁.Delete
Way Cool!..I'm glad you made it back to Terra-firrma....The planet earth in one piece, a solid one at that.ReplyDelete
It's not on my list of any kind, but good for you....
Had fun and glad all went well. Will do again in another 75 years. 😁Delete
Hey Doug, just curious, can you share which road service you have?..I've had Good Sam for 20 some years..I've needed them on the road and even 2x here at home for a total of 4x..I'm totally happy with their service and the peace of mind has been well worth it.ReplyDelete
We all keep reading about who's good/bad..Seems as you were treated swell.
If you don't want to share here, that's O.K...
I worked for State Farm my whole career and have had their insurance for 60 years. Their coverage is handled like this. I pay the bill and turn into SF. They review and send payment to me. Until I receive payment I don't know how much was covered. But based on my insurance knowledge I expect a full refund.Delete
Well I guess you found something to do in Eloy...lol We were not surprised to read that Nike was going to jump but your decision caught us off guard. Congratulations for just going for it. Sounds like you had a great time. Some "detours" on the journey are more fun then the original plan.ReplyDelete
You're right. It just seemed like fate that we ended up here in Eloy and I just had to test it. :)Delete
Congratulations, good for you, now we have to go back and do it.ReplyDelete
Great place to do your jump as you know. No waiting. Just sign in and jump. Even give you a discount for your second jump.Delete
That sounded like a great experience but definitely not for the faint of heart.ReplyDelete
I think at our age, it's hard to get too excited about anything. I was surprised how calm I was and I'm afraid of heights. I don't get close to the edge at Font's Point.Delete
NO WAY JOSE!!!!! Well maybe ... Franck just might be able to talk me into it!! Congratulations on a major accomplishment. Bucket List .... CHECK!!ReplyDelete
WAY!!! I think you and Franck would hit it off fine. Come on up this week and let's do it! You only live once. :) I've got Franck's email address.Delete
My youngest did this about 5 years ago...personally, I think it is nuts, but I can't take heights like that anymore...won't do airplanes eitherReplyDelete
At least they didn't ask for proof of Covid vaccination on this flight.Delete
Not on my bucket list! Don't even like to fly.ReplyDelete
The sport parachute used was popularized by the Frenchman that founded Felicity, CA.
Not on mine either, but sometimes temptation stares you in the face. Didn't know about the Frenchman.Delete
That's exciting dad! Glad you went through with it! That initial step off the plane is a total adrenaline rush! Not on your bucket list but you can check it off anyway😁ReplyDelete
Thanks Steve. Luckily, Franck didn't give me much time to think about jumping. It is a hard hit when that cold air slams into you.Delete
OMG Doug! So what we weren't expecting! LOL. Good for you! Memories for Nick forever that he jumped with his grandpa!! So cool!!!! Love the pictures! Even though a video would have been great! Hopefully today you get some answers to the White Lion! :) Dinner sounds awesome too!ReplyDelete
It surprised me too. It made for a memorable day. I'm hoping the boss man comes by today. Maybe I'm out of gas 😀Delete
Pretty awesome dad!!!ReplyDelete
Thanks Kristi. Still young at heart.Delete
Whoop whoop!!! Wasn't surprised Nick signed up but thrilled that you did. That's awesome!ReplyDelete
You are one cool Grandpa and Dad. You probably got an extra star from Dolly too. ❤
Thanks Patsy. Your turn.Delete
Haha. Off you went, in spite of all. Glad you had a good time and lived over it! Yes, you did deserve a steak for supper. Getting adrenalized burns some calories!ReplyDelete
Thanks JudithK. Glad I lived through it. Landed on my butt and not my bad ankle and that was good.Delete
