I was awake around 8 this morning, but didn't get up till around 9 o'clock. Noticed it was warmer in Bloomington than here this morning. A little cool out at 49, but will warm to 67 today with very strong winds unfortunately this afternoon. It will blow the clouds away though.
I looked at my text messages and saw that Shawn was coming out today and would arrive around 10:30. When I worked in Salem, Oregon in the late 70s and early 80s, Linda Casto worked with me and her and her family and mine became friends.
Have not seen them since I left there in 1984. Shawn was 8 years old when we left. We have kept in touch with Linda through Facebook and Dolly has kept in contact over the years. I had placed a link on Facebook to my blog indicating I was near Phoenix so Linda let me know her son Shawn had recently moved their with his family.
So, today I met Shawn as a grown man, married with children and grandchildren. We had a great time talking. Even had a short phone video chat with Linda and Larry, her husband. As you all know, I'm not good with memory, so everything Shawn told me about my kids playing with him and his brother Lance was all new to me.
Shawn is a dog lover and Yuma was his friend in no time and didn't want him to leave. |
Before we knew it a couple hours had flown by and Shawn is planning to take his "race what you brung" Ram 5.7 liter Hemi truck with a racing chip, so he had to head home and prepare. Good luck tonight Shawn. Don't blow the engine in your work truck 😁.
It was around 2 o'clock when I asked Nick if he wanted to drive up to some hieroglyphics on the mountainside. Didn't want to hike much today to give my feet a rest. Well, it didn't work that way!😨 Couldn't find them and we saw what looked to be a nice Jeep road up the mountain, so off we went.
The road got too rough and we wanted to see what was around the next turn and before I knew it, we had a couple of tortuous hiking miles under our belt. Another foot soaking night ahead. 😰
Are we there yet? |
It's hard to stop hiking when you have such beautiful views.
I'll never make it back to the Jeep! |
I'm sitting on a rock waiting for Nick to come back from looking around the next bend. Yuma is worried! |
Really great photos of your hike. You're right, there are beautiful views. Shawn looks great. I'm glad he could visit and you got to chat with Linda and Larry. You look like Father Time during your hike. 😅
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. I felt like him to. Time for the baby to take over 😀
DeleteThanks for the memories of when I could still hike those kinds of places.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I'm barely hanging in there.
DeleteYour words, "wanted to see what was around the next turn" pretty much sums up the lure of the great American Southwest. I know that feeling well how trails and mountains keep drawing one further and further to see what's around the next bend. It's a great feeling having scenery so mysteriously alluring like that. 'You can take the boy out of the southwest but you can never take the southwest out of the boy'.
ReplyDeleteMight be the death of us. But it's still worth it.
DeleteHaha, Dolly read my mind. I was thinking more of a true mountain man.
ReplyDeleteGood for you with the hiking.
I like your description better Patsy. Still trying to keep up with younguns! 😀
DeleteBut just think how STRONG you are getting!! I agree ... I'm bad about "I wonder what's down THAT road"!!
ReplyDeleteHa! I just hurt worse the next day. You do do have that curiosity that makes explorations fun!
DeleteTime sure does fly doesn't it?! From 8 years old to being a grandfather WOW! Beautiful pictures there! You boys are sure eating good! :)
ReplyDeleteTrying to build up energy for the next hike. 😁
DeleteThe petroglyphs I found were close to the trailhead parking. Also saw that road but didn't have the right rig. There's a lot of rock out there that's hard on the feet. How fun to meet up with people from different generations. Next week, Ajo.
ReplyDeleteBTW, a friend with big 5er and dark blue truck is parked not far from the burned out trailer. Say hi to Paul, and his dog Tippy.
Thank you Gaelyn. Didn't see the burned out trailer till we were heading back from our successful hunt.
