Canyon Lake and another move

 This morning the weather was perfect.  We decided after breakfast we would head up the Apache Trail to Canyon Lake, 15 miles up the road.  It was 11:15 and off we went.  

As we drove the first few miles we traveled up several BLM roads but they were in very bad shape and no better than where we are staying.

We also made a quick picture stop at the Goldfield Mine Amusement ghost town.

Then it was 12 miles of beautiful mountains till we reached Canyon Lake.  The road is all nicely paved to the lake.

Then we drove another couple miles to Tortilla Flat, a very popular and crowded little roadside strip of old buildings.  We didn't stop because there were no parking places available along the road.

We had seen signs saying the Apache Trail was closed two miles beyond Tortilla Flat and sure enough there was a big gate.

We saw a man on the trail directing the helicopter hauling material from the closed area of the road and asked him what was going on.  He said there had been a rock slide knocking out a large portion of the Apache Trail.  Now we know why it is closed.

Yuma meets one year old Duke.  Already a big boy, but only a pup at heart.

It is 1 o'clock in the morning, so I will let you know about our move decision in tonight's post.
