Valley of the Names

Slept in this morning till 9:30 when Yuma started whining and wanting to go next door to join the Coffee Hour.  I let him out, but he wouldn't go over there without me, so, that ended that idea.

It was about 10 o'clock when I got over there and the wind forecasted for today and tomorrow started rearing its ugly head.  Luckily, it is sunny and calling for mid 70s today, so it could be worse.

It was around noon, when we split to do our separate duties for the day and so after a breakfast of three eggs and three pieces of bacon,  Yuma and I decided to take the hour ride to the Valley of the Names.  It's only about 10 miles away, as the crow flies, but it is on the other side of the Cargo Muchacho Mountains, so 32 miles by road.

Last year, Nick and I searched for the valley, but I didn't know it was on Google, so we never could locate the valley.  I should know Google knows everything.

Passed this dead Cottonwood many times over the years and I still stop to take a picture.  So alone!

The Valley of the Names is just off the road to the Picacho (Pu-ka-cho) Peak Recreation area on the Colorado River.

About 16 miles north, but zoomed in.

Had no problems finding it this time, but trying to find the stones Dolly and I placed there with our names inside a heart was a different story.  I can't remember where and the place is vast and hilly.  I believe, it was 2013 or 2014 when we did that, but my blog search doesn't find it.

Picacho Peak and my Jeep in the background.

On the way home I made a quick detour to the Walmart in Yuma to pick up four boxes of Stroopwafels for my morning coffee.  I had run out.

We arrived home, just in time for a shortened Happy Hour.  With the strong winds from the north blowing under Tom's Stinger B, it got fairly cool when the sun lowered in the west.  Time for me to fix Yuma and I hotdogs and then call it a night.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. The Valley of Names is an interesting place. It's too bad you couldn't find our little contribution. I'm sure it's still there. You've seemed to have a lot of wind there this winter. Enjoy those stroofwafels!

  2. The Valley looks similar to the mesa with the Snake, with the rocks forming words or creatures. Too bad you did not find your contribution.

    1. We should have marked the coordinates, but I didn't think I would lose my memory so soon :)

  4. The Valley of Names is interesting to see. From far away you don’t realize what it is. Glad you found it again, too bad you couldn’t find your own. I will be glad when the end stops.

    1. It is odd to look across the valley and see lined rocks. Not till you grt close do you realize they're names of people.

  7. Checked my Chelan Wally's, they have no idea at all what a Stroopawaffle was.
They also said I had to spend $10.00 to send an LED shop light back to the Netherlands. Sposed to last 45 yrs. and has a 5 yr guarantee, I had saved the receipt, but no she wouldn't honor it. Told me I had to save the box and bring it in. Ya-sure you betcha!..So I bought another one and cut the box statement which states: Do not mail it to us, return to place of purchase with receipt. We shall see who wins this silly battle. Good for 5 yrs with receipt..I did it and the lady is telling me to hit the bricks?
Being retired, what the heck, it's rather fun, as a Gin Game or?
Hope summer shows up for you folks...
