Boondocking on Darby Well Road

Thursday, January 5, 2017

Woke up to a nice bright sun shiny day. Didn’t need to turn on the heat this morning for the first time. The morning temperature was in the low 50s.

Lots to do this morning. Only staying one day at the RV Park before heading to Darby Well Road just South of Ajo to find a boondocking spot for the next 10 days or so.

Took Yuma for a walk around the RV Park. Fairly crowded park, but very quiet and the management and visitors are very nice. If I had to pick a place to stay for the winter, this would be it.  There’s my rig and Jeep to the right side.

The RV Park is behind this Casino.

Had two cups of coffee and read my blogs for the morning. Then I just had a bowl of cereal, half a grapefruit and a tangerine and straight to the shower for a nice long hot soaking. After that, I did my laundry at their nice laundry room.

It was getting on noon when all this was completed. Yuma and I jumped in the Jeep and headed to Darby Well Road to see if there were any suitable places to stay.  I was hoping the place we stayed last year would be open.

I was surprised to find that they just graded the dirt road and it was smooth to drive on. All other years, it had been a very bumpy wash board road that drove you bonkers to drive on.

I was also surprised to find there were very few MHs and just a few tents and vans. Lots of vacant places to stay and my old place was vacant too.

I read this morning that Al, Kelly and Pheebs of the Travel With The Bayfield Bunch are parked out on Darby Well Road, so I drove on down looking to see if I could spot them, but they must be way down the road or hidden somewhere.

By now it was getting on 1 o’clock and I needed to get back to the RV Park and pack up the rig and get back here to my spot before someone comes along and steals it.

Entrance to the road and Black Mountain is dead ahead.

We got parked and set-up around 3 o’clock and took walks around the area and took photos.

It’s nice that Yuma can roam around and explore without a leash tying him down.

For some reason, I felt very tired, so Yuma and I sat outside in the setting sun and rested.  I walked almost five miles today, so that may have been the reason.

Before we knew it, the sun was setting on a clear blue sky and it was time to come inside and write my blog and then have dinner. Been a very nice and warm day to be outside. Yuma and I had a great time today getting all set up for our first extended boondocking experience in 2017.

See you later.
