Nothing happening here in Eloy, Arizona

I guess I gave away the day yesterday in one picture.  We only made it about 35 miles down I-10 before the check engine light came on and the White Lion went into limp mode and then the engine just quit and we coasted to a stop about 13 miles before Red Rock at mile marker 213.

My goal was to make it to the Pima County Fairgrounds RV park and have the engine checked out in the Tucson area.  The place we stopped was a beautiful area.  Could see Picacho Peak and the Superstitious Mountains to the left.  The day was nice so no complaints there.

Tried starting the engine with no luck and finally, I bit the bullet and got on the phone and we called around for several hours trying to find someone who would help.  Finally, found a diesel shop in Eloy about 15 miles behind us that would send a tow truck.

It was 5 o'clock when a huge tow truck pulled up and a man jumped out.

He worked for about an hour and then we were on our way.  15 miles east to an exit and then back about 25 miles to Eloy.  Tow bill came to a whopping $881!😱  Thank goodness for towing insurance.

Talked to the boss man at Midway Diesel and  he said we would come up with a plan tomorrow.  That was it.  We had a nice steak dinner in the dirt lot across the street and called it a night.  Just another night of boondocking.😀

This morning Yuma and I were up by 7 o'clock.  Midway Diesel opens at 8 and I wanted to be up if they stopped over early.  We laid around and relaxed all day and never heard a word.  I got a few cleaning projects done, washed a sink full of dishes and took everything out of the fridge and cleaned it .

At 2, we played chess and and it was a long one.  Nick is getting harder to beat.  Took an hour and a half to take his King down today.

The shop closes at 5 so I walked over at closing time to check in.  Boss man said the plan is for me to stay put for the night.  That's good.  Now I can hook up the Dish and be ready for Gold Rush later.  Time for dinner and relax.  Kind of needed some time off my feet anyway.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Well, it looks like you boys might be spending some time in Elroy. I'm sure they'll take a look as soon as possible. At least you won't miss Gold Rush, so it could be worse. 😄 At least Nick will be able to hone his chess skills, while you're waiting. Good luck on getting a diagnosis soon!

    1. Hope not. Not much here but flat desert. I enjoy playing Nick at chess. He is getting better fast.

I had an epiphany last night at 3:45. My definition is I suddenly realized something I knew but had completely forgotten. Hopefully, it is the problem with the White Lion and it's an easy fix. Let you know when I fix it.

  3. Not quite the boondocking you had planned on, but you are safe for the night and care is just a short walk away.

    1. You're right Jeff. Sure is nice to have your home with you when something like this happens.

  4. I know it's a bummer you're broke down but at least you didn't wake up to a couple inches of snow like we did here! Hopefully it doesn't take too much to get the White Lion up and going!🤞

  5. Sorry to hear Doug. If you need to put in some time when they are working on it, go to the airport, north east corner of the city, and watch the skydiving. If either one of you feels adventurous, you can do a tamden skydive for about $200. We almost did it last December.

    1. Thanks Bill. Would enjoy watching, but jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is not my idea of fun 😀

  7. Lucky you broke down in a good spot and at least they sent a big rig that could actually tow you! Not a bad spot to hang out for awhile. I'd watch the skydiving, but not take part!! Hope they get it fixed for you soon!! You can always camp out here again if need be.

    1. You're right Nancy. I agree with your idea on skydiving. Fun to watch but not a good idea for me. I started my southern journey in yor driveway. Maybe I'll end it there 😁😆 Thanks for the kind offer though.

  8. Oh Doug, sure hope it's what you think it might be! I've heard and had horror stories about towing lately, so glad they sent the right vehicle the first time and got you to a safe place. At least you were able to get some cleaning and dishes done :) Love to watch skydiving, but no desire ever! Two of our kids have done it and they love it! I think they'd do it more often if it wasn't so expensive! Have a great day and hope you're on the road again soon!

    1. Thanks Shirley. I'm sure all will turn out for the best. I'm just going with the flow. Sure can't see paying to jump out of a perfectly good airplane 😀
