Slept in till 8 o'clock this morning. Little overcast, but nice and warm to start the day. Yuma and I laid outside enjoying the morning while I was having my coffee.
Just before noon, I decided to head somewhere to test my hiking abilities. No mountains, just somewhere flat. Drove north toward the Goldfield Mountains and found a beautiful area that belongs to the county and is undisturbed.Parked at an intersection that this road dead ended into. This is looking down the road. Behind me is the county property. The overcast skies dull the beauty of the desert. Later, all clouds dissipated and it was nice for the rest of the afternoon.
I felt very tired after just a short walk, so I need more time before I head back to the mountains. Yuma and I stopped by Walmart and then it was home for more rest.
The moon is scheduled to rise over the Superstition Mountains tonight around 9 o'clock. I'm going to take my big camera and drive back to where we hiked and see if I can get a better picture of the moonrise. If it turns out nice, it will be in tomorrow's post.
Thanks for stopping by.
Wonderful pictures even on a cloudy day. That's one big barrel cactus. A perfect one, too. There are a lot of healthy saguaros and cholla, too. The trail you walked looked very inviting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area to walk, were you keeping an eye open for snakes. Vern, Boise Id
ReplyDeleteNice to have a flat trail. You're right, I better keep Yuma on a leash so he doesn't stumble on one.
DeleteI love the barrel cactus, the way the ribs curve.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are really nice, Doug. It was a beautiful day today.
Thanks, Patsy. I think we're in for a lot of nice days. The barrel cactus looks perfect.
DeleteLove seeing those saguaros!!! Hiking is great exercise!
ReplyDeleteThiscis a very long flat trail that will be easier on me. Has all the desert beauty.
ReplyDeleteI was also concerned about snakes. I'm glad you didn't encounter any.
ReplyDeleteJust curious who that young, beardless guy is who keeps showing up in your blog! ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice pics of the massive 'Jumping' Cholla and its Christmas Cholla cousin. You have found lots of beauty in the desert this year!
ReplyDeleteEven though it was overcast and grey the beauty of the desert cannot be masked. Great photos Doug.
