Scenic drive to Ajo, Arizona

Location:  Darby Well Road near Ajo, Arizona

Slept well last night and woke up after 7 o'clock and the sun was shining without a cloud in the sky.  Cool however, at 43 degrees.  Before the day is out it will be a beautiful  66 degrees.

Yuma and I had our walk around the area and then we just laid in the sun for several hours enjoying the beautiful morning.  At noon, Yuma wanted to go for a Jeep ride.  I had things to get at the Olsen's Market so we jumped in the Jeep and headed west on Darby Well Road.

By heading west we will be taking the Scenic Loop into Ajo.  The Scenic Loop goes around the backside of Ajo Mountain and down into the town.  It is about 4 1/2 miles in length.

Looking back at Black Mountain.

Yuma looking at the cow plops.

Heading down into the valley to Ajo.

There's Ajo.
We then headed to the store and I quickly went in and bought what I needed.  I was disappointed to see a lot of things were bought out.  I wasn't able to get lunch meat or my cheddar cheese.   I bought a cheddar cream cheese to see if that would be okay.  Luckily, I have lots of hotdogs on hand when I run out of lunch meat so not all is lost.

When I went to pay I discovered I left my billfold back at the WL.  :((  Bummer.  Yuma and I rushed back and got my billfold and went back to pay and pick-up my groceries.

Dolly got her new phone on Wednesday and took it in today to Verizon to have the data on the old phone moved to the new one and activated.  Unfortunately, after four trips today to Verizon, the conclusion is there is something wrong with the new phone.  It keeps locking up.  Dolly is now back to her old phone till Monday when the rep at Verizon decides what to do. :(( Bummer again!

Yuma and I have been enjoying the beautiful afternoon laying around and taking short walks.  Some high clouds have rolled in but no rain in them.  This area is just beautiful with so many types of cacti and mountain everywhere.  And of course vast areas of desert.  I could live here year around. :))  Hint, hint!

At 5 o'clock I turned the TV on to watch my Gold Rush shows.  Somewhere in there, I need to finish my blog and fix dinner.  Always hectic on my TV nights.  Luckily, not many of them.

See you later.

  1. I think I recognized just about every inch of your scenic loop drive into Ajo. Even the cow plops where you and I hiked up them one time a couple years ago. Good old Olsens store. Always liked that place for some reason. The Sonoran desert looks so beautiful and I don't think I have ever seen it so green. I know what you mean by living in the Southwest. If I was an American that's where we would be for sure. It will always be my second home. Soak up as much of those mountains and desert you can for these are uncertain times right now and the best laid plans of mice and men may one day go right down the tubes again.

    1. Those were fun times and I remember them well, Al. If it were up to me I would live in Ajo, but not to be. Which is okay too. Got lots of deep roots in Bloomington. Hopefully we'll meet here again.

  2. You had another great day, even if it did was cool this morning. I'm glad Yuma ha you pull over on the road to Ano, so he could stretch his legs. The desert looks beautiful. These are difficult times, but we'll get through them. I just want to say, stay safe and well,to all Doug's Canadian friends.

    1. Thank you Dolly. Yuma loves riding in the jeep and getting out to roam around. He comes running when I'm ready to leave. Although most of the Canadians I know haven't met you they feel they know you because I talk about you all the time. They will appreciate your thinking of them and wishing them well.

    2. Thank you Dolly, we made it home to Ontario Canada yesterday. We are doing our 14 day self isolation as requested by our Canadian government. We feel fine and have no symptoms of the virus.

  3. Your pictures are wonderful. With the rain they received in the desert before Dean and I left the area (near Tucson), the desert should be thriving - and it looks like it is. We really enjoyed Arizona's weather.

  4. Thank you Cheri. It is very green right now. Little wetter than in past years but it does wonders for the plant life.

  5. That trail is beautiful! Lovely scenery and you are lucky to have a Jeep for the trek. Yuma is loving it too, I'm sure! Sorry about the lunchmeat and cheese, we've been stocking up for the past week, things are serious now but hopefully not for too long. Stay to yourselves and stay healthy!

    1. Thanks Patsy. BB would have done just fine. Enjoy your seclusion as if we're not used to it. Hopefully the supply chain is up and running soon.

  6. What a beautiful place for you to be right now! The colors, the peace, how wonderful! Hoping you can get some lunch meat and cheese soon. Sorry to see that all this craziness has hit Ajo and Olsens market. I'm done with Walmart after yesterday! Nothing on shelves and no restocking being done. Enjoy yourselves!

  9. Beautiful. What a blessed place to be while you "shelter in place".....lol. I was wondering if you were able to watch Gold Rush. It was interesting how in Australia nature replenishes the gold supply. Take care!
