Trump Wall and first time grilling

Location:  BLM near Winterhaven, California

Slept great last night and woke up with the Sun.  Got up at 8 o'clock and fixed coffee and Yuma and I took our walk.  Last time I stopped by this cactus there was only one bloom.  Now look at it.  That rain the other day did the trick.
Blooming cactus.

Spent the morning putting my grill together and just enjoying the nice morning.  Going to get to the low 80s this afternoon, so a little warm.

As I was reading blogs this afternoon, I saw that Deb of Celebrating the Dance mentioned they had gone South on Sidewinder Road to the All-American Canal and the Trump Wall for a little bit.  So, around 3 o'clock Yuma and I got in the air conditioned Jeep for a little adventure.  It's only about two miles to the border.

All-American Canal

The wall is across the canal.

Helicopter patroling the canal.

The road ended when the canal turned North.  The view looking towards a casino through the vegetation along the canal was beautiful.
Looking North along the canal.
South side of Pilot Knob Mountain.

Patrol on the hilltop overlooking the canal and me.

Just as I was taking these pictures a border patrol truck with two armed young men pulled up to have a chat.  They were very nice and courteous.  Just making sure I was on the up and up and then they were on their way.
Border Patrol.
After that I headed home.  It was time to start dinner on my new Weber Q grill.  Here's the setup on the patio.
Just need someone to feed.

Two Tri-Tip steaks and half potato.
The half potato was sliced up with salt and pepper with lots of butter and rolled in aluminum foil.
Relaxing while the Weber Q does the cooking.
It was about eight minutes for the steak, twenty minutes for the half potato and I heated corn on the propane burner in the WL.  It went quickly and all came together as a delicious meal.  I'm proud of my first grilled dinner.
Delicious!
Soon as this post is done I'll have my dessert and watch a little TV before going to bed.

See you later.

    1. Thanks Steve. The border patrol is really needed up this year. I don't think anyone could get across with the number of men patrolling the border. The border patrol love Trump. :))

  4. Is that not the life? Nothing better than a nice patio and a grilled meal. I always love to see the river and all it's greenery against the sandy desert. Great pictures!! I've always found the Border Agents to be very polite and friendly.

    1. Thank you Nancy. Life is good again. Taking pictures over water always come out great. I must say I've been approached twice by border patrol and both times the young men were very handsome in their uniforms. They do take pride in their work and always courteous. Even to an old bearded man like me :))

  5. That sounds like a wonderful day, Doug! The pictures of the canal are really nice. Yuma is doing some border patrolling of his own.
I think those guys must get bored and enjoy a chat every now and then.
Great looking meal! Yay! Now you're hooked!

  6. Looks like quite a feast for your first grilling. As others have mentioned George got a lot of use out of his Weber Q, sounds like a well built unit for travel.

  7. Since you are using a table to support your Weber Q you might also consider making a fold up Wind Shield like George had set up for those gusty days.
Be Safe around the Border and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Good idea Rick. I'll put it on my list for things to be done. The border seems to be well guarded these days.

  8. I'm sorry. We should have told you about that beautiful drive. I guess I thought you had already been there. It's amazing the beauty of the canal area is so close by. This year there was a huge difference in the number of Border Patrol agents and Imperial County deputies compared to last year. When we first arrived at PK an Imperial County Deputy would park at the front and pretty much stay there all day. I told Jerry we have own security guard. Enjoy your new toy!
