Last rain out of Yuma

Location:  Stone Cabin on highway 95, Arizona

First thing on the agenda this morning was to call Verizon and get my phone number changed.  Now that I know what the problem is, I could tell them and they soon got me going in the right direction.

My problem was this: My first Verizon purchase was a MIFI so it was that phone number was the owner of my account.  Since my purchase they made changes and no longer allowed me to log into my MIFI to make ownership changes like changing phone numbers.  Once I figured that out they knew what to do to change ownership of the account to my phone number so I could change my phone number.  Took about an hour, but got it done and I now have a new phone number.  Yeah!

It rained all night.  This is what I woke up to.

Water everywhere!  Still raining most of the morning, so Yuma and I had our normal leisurely breakfast.  Around 11 o'clock the rain stopped and I decided it was time to make a dash out of town.  We quickly got ready to roll and headed towards highway 95 around noon.

Unfortunately, the rain didn't stop.  Instead it started raining quite hard again as we traveled North on 95.

Luckily, we are not going very far today.  Only about 65 miles.  My plan was to find a site along Palm Canyon Road, but this rain has caused me concern.  The normal hard ground could be very soft with water saturation.  By the time I got to the Border Patrol Checkpoint,
I decided to pull into the Stone Cabin parking area for the night.  It is within sight of the checkpoint.

It was raining hard off and on and the wind was blowing hard through the mountain pass.  I wasn't going to unhook the Jeep and scout the area with this bad weather. :((  Yuma and I had our lunch and laid on the bed listening to the rain and wind all afternoon.  I was tired and needed the rest.
Stone Cabin vacant and in disrepair. :((

Kofa Mountains on the East side of hwy 95 looking out my front window.

Another vacant building on the property.
Those of you who travel hwy 95 from Yuma to Quartzsite are familiar with this landmark.  Dolly and I stopped here our first year when a gentleman opened a hamburger place here.  He had a dream, but unfortunately with no water in the area, it failed and time and weather is doing its job on the old place.
Yuma checking out Stone Cabin from the comfort of inside the WL.
It is still raining outside and the gusts are enough to rock the WL at times.  Looking forward to the morning though.  It is supposed to clear up by sunrise.  I'm having no trouble maintaining my batteries today and should have plenty of power for my needs this evening.  Having lots of solar panel power certainly helps on cloudy days.

As I was typing, my phone put out an emergency flood warning alert for the entire area telling us to avoid flooded areas.  First time I've gotten an emergency warning beep on my phone.   Interesting.

Hopefully, I'll find a nice hard piece of ground around here in the morning and we will move.  Staying here isn't a bad option for the night.  The highway goes dead as the darkness closes in.  Much quieter than busy 32nd Street where I have been living.
Our home for the night under ominous skies.
Time for a little dinner and soon after to bed.  Dreaming of sunshine :))

Stay dry out there.  See you later.

  2. Yes, with all that rain it could be a tricky bit of business trying to find solid ground in the desert. I'd almost be tempted to go on up to Quartzsite and scout around town for a solid parking lot spot until the rains are over. Or hold the Fort right where you are. No way would I venture up any of the desert roads off 95.

    1. You might be right Al. It's going to be sunny today so will scout around in the jeep to check things out about noon.

  3. Rain, Rain go away!! It does make for some beautiful pictures though! Smart move to not head on the dirt roads for sure. Glad you got your phone issues figured out. Hopefully you remember to give Dolly your new number LOL...Yuma is just such a cutie!

  4. I also vote for staying on solid ground. We've had a few friends stuck in the soft sand and mud. Not fun. Happy to hear your solar is working. Now let's get some sunshine to really beef it up.

  5. That is a lot of rain. Great picture of Yuma on the dash.

FYI: We have been parked at the Roadrunner BLM in the motorhome when there has been a lot of rain and the ground was solid. There is a large area upfront where you can unhook the Jeep to scout the area for parking without the motorhome.

Hope you find a quiet, peaceful area to spend a couple of days and when you get back things get taken care of quickly.

  6. I guess you have been getting all the rain. Here near Tucson, it's just been sprinkling every once in awhile. Nothing like in your pictures!! Yup .. I get those warnings on my phone too. It's a very good idea to keep that turned on. Hope you find a place high and dry.

  7. Definitely avoid the desert in the rains. Sand scares me with heavy vehicles even without the added mushiness of rain.
Nice picture of Yuma. Hopefully the rain soon stops for you and now us. Today is a possibility. Glad the panels are doing their job for you.
Those flash phone warnings have come twice and scared the you know what out of me!!

    1. You're right about the desert being mushy. Will have to be careful. Don't want to get stuck today. This morning I woke up to bright blue skies and the beautiful sun is in full bloom :)) I was surprised by the warning too. Never heard one before.

  8. That Yuma. What a beautiful picture. Wish I had info on a place to go but I don't. You'll figure it out!

  9. Hope you are keeping dry. Sounds a bit wet for a while. Plamossa Road just north of Quartzsite may be a good option. Pretty solid along there. With all this cloud cover the solar panels may have a struggle.
    Stay safe!
