This morning, I was excited to be going to Mexico for the first time. Deb and Riley’s friends, Rick and Willie live in the same town in Canada as them and they were looking forward to seeing them.
Rick and Willie have been to Los Algodones many times over the years, so they were our guides for our first trip to the town. I managed to get up in time to be ready for our 8:30 leave time to meet them at the gate at 9 o’clock.

Not going to say much in words about the little Mexican town, but there were vendors everywhere selling their goods and every other storefront was a Optometrist, Pharmacy or Dental service.
I made a mistake right off and took a picture as I entered the gate and that is a No, No!. This Mexican patrolman came from across the street and tried to tell me in Spanish that I can’t take pictures at the entrance. We finally worked it out and I got the gist that he wanted me to delete the picture before I could proceed.

Willie only needed an adjustment to her frames and then I was at the counter telling this lady about the problems I was having with my eyesight. She got on the phone and before I could sit down, this Optometrist came from somewhere outside and started testing my eyes. I think he has more than one office.
Quite an experience getting to see a little part of Mexico . They must get a lot of U.S. and Canadian business there. It will be interesting to see if your eyesight improves. Looking forward to tomorrow's pictures.
ReplyDeleteI always said I had no interest in going south of the border, but I really enjoyed it. The people were friendly and not pushy with their wares. Excited about my new glasses
DeleteWe enjoyed the day too. It was great spending the day with Willie and Rick, I was pretty certain you would like them. Thanks for lunch.
ReplyDeleteDeb
You're welcome. I had a great time.
DeleteThe first trip over the border is always exciting. Ummm I think there are signs that say no pictures ... LOL I hope the glasses work. If not, check out Costco for eye exams and glasses. Their prices are comparable. Glad you got back across the border. If you take any meds, it's the place to go to buy them, enough to last all year. No prescription needed and the prices are a fraction of what they are here. Looking forward to your pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun and made more enjoyable going with friends. I have had many surgeries on my eyes over the years and may not be repairable, but trying one more time.
DeleteMarcia, whom you met at the Tucson Fairgrounds last spring, had an eye exam for the same thing, and it turned out she needed to have Prism added to the lenses...we ordered that yesterday (keeping the frames she has) and they will be ready in a couple of weeks. All of this cost her $350 'after' medicare paid most of the eye exam.
ReplyDeleteI remember, Dave. I hope we both have better eyesight when we get them. Keeping my fingers crossed.
DeleteHaha, yes Nancy is right about the sign re pictures. Trust you to get caught at it!!
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm glad you had a good time, now you will be comfortable if and when you go on your own. Good luck with the glasses.
Thanks Patsy. They were dead serious about no pictures. Glad they didn't take my camera. Couldn't read the signs with my old glasses :)
DeleteI assume you ate lunch there? I know you are not a fan of Mexican food. What did you eat?
ReplyDeleteYes, we had lunch. None of us bought Mexican. I had a BLT. Yummy!
DeleteGlad you enjoyed Mexico and got some business done! No problem with the birth certificate and driver's license? Sounds pretty scary about the no pictures..geez! No Mexican! Oh my! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad they didn't keep you down there, poor Yuma would have been in a world of loneliness because I am pretty sure he would not have allowed anyone in the RV! I think it may warm up here a little bit this coming week. But, I won't hold my breathe. It is about this time every year that those people up north who can't come south, leave their back doors open so they can cool us off down here.
