Jeep is getting a good cleaning

Yuma needed a walk at 4:30 this morning, so I got my brain games out of the way before going back to sleep.  Woke around 7:30, but laid in bed till 9 o'clock since Yuma wasn't in a hurry to get up.

It was already getting warm outside, but slightly overcast.  Luckily, there is no wind and the high will be a comfortable 70.  I'll take that.

As usual, I had a leisurely breakfast.  One of my commenters asked why I wasn't having Ritz crackers with peanut butter and cheese this winter.  I had to tell him I had forgotten about it.  Thanked him for reminding me and pulled out my box of Ritz crackers and peanut butter and made six yummy crackers to go with my coffee.  Thanks Phxxer.  Getting old is a bxxxh.

The inside of my Jeep is so filthy, even I can't stand to be in it anymore.  Had the outside washed and today is the day to give it a good inside cleaning.  I tried cleaning the carpets of hair, sand and dust, but gave up.  Instead, I ripped every bit of carpet out.  It is old and I will buy new carpet when I return home.  It will be a lot easier to keep clean without carpet.

It took all day getting it cleaned and I'm still not done.  Should finish before noon tomorrow.  I had to clean all the vinyl and spray vinyl cleaner on it.  Then I cleaned the seats as best I could.  They are saturated with dirt and hair.  Took forever to get it looking presentable.  My hands are sore from beating the seats.  Also, my eyes got all that dust and hair and now are itchy.  Lastly, I vacuumed and then wiped down the floors and sides.  Tomorrow, I just need to go back over things and catch stuff I missed.

Yuma was not a happy camper waiting on Dad.  We finally took a nice long walk, but the jets today were really making a low rumble taking off and that scared poor Yuma.
Took forever to convince him to come along with me and he finally did.  Just as we were returning, someone off in the distance fired a few shots and Yuma high tailed it back home.

When I got back I didn't see him anywhere.  I was just getting ready to get back to cleaning and there he was, all curled up on the floor in back.  I thought he had gone in the WL, but he knew I would go to the Jeep.

Tired tonight.  It is Gold Rush night, so just had a ham sandwich for dinner and sat back to watch TV.  Tomorrow, I will head to town to find hair and sand proof seat covers if there is such a thing and some rubber mats for the floor.  I don't want to go through this again.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. You had a busy day of cleaning. I'm sure te jeep looks 100% better. With all the wind, dust and sand out there, I wonder how long it will last. Poor Yuma! He hates those loud noises. Beautiful sunset picture.

    1. With no carpets and if I can find the right seat covers it should be much easier to keep clean. The whole Yuma area is filled with military noises. Poor Yuma.

  2. We replaced the floor coverings in our Toyota with cheap bits of carpet from the dollar store. When they get soiled we just chuck them out. I believe I paid about 2.50 for 2x3 pieces of fairly good quality carpeting which I cut to shape.

    1. Now that is a great idea Karen. Buying cheap carpet and cutting to fit is a great idea. Now for the seats. They are my biggest problem. Any inexpensive ideas?
Glad to hear from you. I see you're a blogger too.

  3. You could have used my shop vac, it gets Yuma’s hair out of my seat covers pretty well.
Poor Yuma, he looks so sad sitting there, he’s not used to all that hard work happening. Lol.

    1. When I stop by for a visit I'll give it a try. Mine doesn't work well at all. Now it's raining and Yuma hates rain too.

    1. I think so. And today it's sprinling and he's afraid of that too.

  5. Weathertech make great rubber mats- in a Jeep the carpet really doesn’t make sense- with rubber you can just vacuum then hose it off.Yuma sure is a great companion & can’t fault him for being upset with the loud noises. Enjoy your desert winter; all the best.

    1. Thanks AJ. I was thinking about that too, but couldn't think of the brand name. All i could come up with was Rubber Maid and I knew that wasn't right. Yuma was born here and maybe these sounds remind him of when he was a pup.

  6. That is my biggest problem with Jeeps. We had one that looked exactly like yours (it was a 2006) before we sold it and got a 2017. The '06 was filthy and no matter how hard we tried we just could not get it clean. The '17 has never had the top off and likely never will. Once that dust gets in there it is so hard to get clean again!

    1. I agree. It will never all come out unless I spray wash the interior. But I bought it to get dirty so some dirt is not bad, but I need to fight the hair. I'll find seat covers somewhere that will do the job.

  8. When we bought our Tundra in 2020 we wanted it without carpeting..no can do. They did include awesome rubber mats that pretty much cover the whole floor back and front. Good luck finishing up today.

    1. Saved by the rain. First rain in the month I've been out here. I am going to get rubber mats for it.

  9. Your TJ is not that big, where can all that dirt hide? Nice cover picture of the ocotillo, have you seen any red ocotillo?

  10. There are quite a few with small red leaves sprouting. Probably turn green soon. There is dirt in every tiny crevice.

  11. If you look on line, maybe you can find some 10 mil polyethelene plastic bags about 30" wide and maybe 6 ft tall. Slip it over the back of the seat. At the bottom of the back, cut across the width of the back only. Then slice down the center of the lower section only. The flaps will go over the sides (and maybe front of the seat). Maybe you can fasten the ends of the flaps with binder clips to hold the seat cover in place. Try a place called U-line. It would be like the bags they use to cover furniture for shipping. You could even think of grommets on the flaps so you could lace it up like boots.

  12. What a busy boy you have been! I like the idea of replacing the floor mats with rubber mats and Nancy's lint remover suggesting. I'm grateful Gibbs doesn't shed but sand and dust is a problem everywhere.
