Location: West Dome Rock Road near Quartzsite, Arizona
Good morning everyone this Groundhog Day! He saw his shadow of course, but who cares. More Winter the merrier I say! The weather has been great in the Southwest and I'm hoping for two more months of it. I'ts also Flip Flop Day: 02-02/2020 or Mirror Day.
Got up early this morning. Before 7 o'clock.
Last night while reading a blog on Al's website, I read about the little almost ghost town of Vidal, Californina. Only about 50 miles from here straight up highway 95. Just turn North at Blythe, California.
I figured everyone was getting tired of reading about motorhome cleaning, so I decided to make an early run up there with my camera in hand. I've got to be home before the 4:30 Superbowl game tonight.
Only had my ten Ritz crackers and skipped all the other breakfast courses. Even forgot to take my pills. Took Yuma for a walk around the desert.
Looking East across Quartzsite to the Kofa Mountains.
Dome Rock behind and to the left of Miss Adventure.
We were out of here by 9 o'clock which is early for me. I think I like getting up early. I can do more in a day that way.
Over the Dome Rock Mountains heading West into California we went till we reached Blythe.
Turned onto highway 95. It is a beautiful drive along the Colorado River with mountains everywhere.
So glad, I broke away today. I was beginning to forget what I came out here for. To explore of course. Could see the Colorado River to my right, so we pulled in to take a look. It is a beautiful river.
Stopped at another sandy road leading to the river.
Even printed on a State sign.
Look Dad, green grass down here.
Turned onto the old highway 95 and here is the end of it.
Aww! Ain't he cute!
Looks to be made of adobe mud.
Nicest place here.
I agree. Time to head home.
We made a fast return and when we got to Ehrenberg, I was so hungry I stopped at a Wendy's and pigged out. I had a double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. Yuma had a single plain burger and some of my fries. Boy, was it delicious. I'm going to do this again! Again, a lot!
Got home around 2 o'clock and rested for a bit. Little tired from all the carbs I ate. But found enough energy to clean the windshield and the cab side windows.
I have been watching the Super Bowl LIV as I have been writing my post. Very close game between the SF 49ers and my team, the KC Chiefs. The Chiefs just went ahead with 2:44 left. Exciting! Score is 24-20. Come on KC! Oh boy, KC makes another touchdown. 31-20 now with a minute left. KC intercepts the ball! Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV!!! :))
Congrats to KC, they played a great game and deserve the win. Thanks for sharing Vidal, it doesn't look to be worth a visit. The Blythe Intaglios are not far, I did not see them in your search bar, and you drove past them on this trip.ReplyDelete
Thanks for losing graciously. It was a great game. Both had their chance to win or lose. I'll have to look in the Blythe Intaglios.Delete
Could not believe they didn't do a replay on that last KC interception . The KC player must of reached over the 49ner and intercepted the ball.ReplyDelete
great game .
It was a great game. I think it was a great as everyone expected from both teams.Delete
Your Yuma is a handsome guy!Interesting pictures of a town that dyed a slow death. Hey Doug, when you are in the Tucson area, I'd like to buy you a cup of joe, and a donut. We live in Green Valley, it's a 20 minute drive to Tucson. I'll bring my little doggie named Peanut, she loves every one and all dogs. Good luck with with all the upcoming business! RawnReplyDelete
Thanks Rawn. I'd love that. I want to to so many places with the White Lion and Tucson is certainly one of theme. Yuma loves friends and I'm sure he and Peanut will get along just fine.Delete
Just let me know when you're traveling to Tucson, and we'll make it happen.Delete
Have you every gone over northeast of Bouse to Swansea? Nice ride and interesting town to explore. It's BLM so outhouses nearby and they are doing minor repairs in the area. BeckiReplyDelete
Yes I have Becki! I will never forget the ghost town of Swansea. It's imprinted in my brain. Worst and best day of my life. Read this post.Delete
Congrats Kansas City! I'm super glad they won. As to Vidal, it's sad to see a town disappear like that. I do love exploring, especially very old towns. Thanks for the pictures!! I bet Yuma really appreciated those fries!!! LOLReplyDelete
Thanks Nancy. You're up early. Not much left of Vidal. Enjoyed the drive up 95 though. Love the Colorado River.Delete
Great close-up of Yuma.! The colors in your photos are so vivid - love so many shades of blue in the sunshine. Glad you took Sunday off to explore & relax. 😎ReplyDelete
Thanks Moonfly. Yuma is a handsome lad I do think so myself. I'm glad I took the day off too. Was getting too much of a homebody. :))Delete
Beautiful pictures, love the Colorado River and its color! So sad about Vidal..some of those old homes would be cute fixer uppers. Yuma is just too adorable!ReplyDelete
Thanks Shirley. More fixing up than I could handle. The location of Vidal is not too appealing. Right in the middle of the desert with Parker being the nearest town.Delete
I really liked the first stone building, very strong looking. The photo of Yuma is priceless, he is such a goof. Glad you at least had a nice ride.ReplyDelete
Great photos of the Colorado. Not much of a town, where people actually live. Yuma looks very handsome. Great Super Bowl!ReplyDelete
Thanks for great review.ReplyDelete
