Buy high - Sell low

Location:  Saddle Mountain BLM near Tonopah, Arizona

The post title says it all.  Now for the gruesome details.  Had another sleepless night with a lot of discomfort, so I was glad to see the sun peeking through the wires this morning, so I could end it and get up for the exciting day.

Made a little breakfast for Yuma and I, then prepared for the two hour drive to Apache Junction which is 90 miles on the far East side of the Phoenix area from Tonopah.  Left at 10:30 for my 1 o'clock meeting with Alicia.

Four Peaks East of Apache Junction, Arizona.

Superstition Mountain East of Apache Junction.

The drive to Apache Junction turned out to be a pleasant one and I was there an hour early.
Miss Adventure's temporary home for now.

The first thing Alicia and her fix-it man did was go over Miss Adventure and list everything that would detract from a quick sale.  I must admit I have been lax in the physical appearance maintenance department and now I pay the piper.

Came down to needing new awnings all the way around.  The hot water heater needs fixing.  The back bumper where I backed into a tree needed repair.

Plus a number of paint scrapes here and there needed sprucing up.  The one thing they added and I didn't like was they wanted to remove all the roofing caulk and apply new.  It never leaked, but she didn't waiver.

She came in with an offer to consign at $8000.  I was hoping for $9500 to $10,000, but not to be.  At one point, I told Alicia I was going to lunch and would further discuss when I got back.  By this time she had wore me down and with my low oomph factor already, I was bottomed out.

Yuma and I had a lunch and I came back and told her I was going down the road to do my business.  Not a flinch from Alicia.  She said good luck.  Darn!  I played my last card.  I was just getting up when one of my commenters, Kay walked in.  Knowing from my blog that I was going to be there, she made a point of stopping in to introduce herself.  Very nice lady and involved on Facebook with a large RV group.  Thank you Kay, for stopping by.

Once she left, I had cooled down and just decided to stop haggling over the money.  Something made me come here and I may as well play the cards out.  Plus, I just didn't want to take Miss Adventure back to Saddle Mountain and try to fight another day.

We agreed that we would have an open consignment date and she would fix Miss Adventure on their dime and promised it would sell quickly once she looked brand new again.  I needed to do that for her.  She has been such a dependable ride for six years of coming to the Southwest.  I'm going to definitely miss her.  Signed the contract and got straight out of there before I cried.

The ride home was horrendous.  It was the after work traffic time and it was bumper to bumper for 70 miles across all the burbs of Phoenix.

Just poking along.

One of two accidents.  Luckily they were both on the East lanes.
Stopped in Buckeye to pick up a prescription I had ordered yesterday and headed home making it just as the sun set.

Saddle Mountain to the left of the sunset.
Very long day and I'm definitely tired.  Hope I sleep better tonight.  And I hope I don't do anymore wheeling and dealing in the near future too.

Time to eat some dinner and call it a night.  See you later.

    1. You probably know my bargaining skills pretty well Dolly. I'm going to rest for a few days before doing anything taxing. Was a pretty sunset. Stopped on the I-10 overpass at Tonopah to take those two pictures.

  6. It's no fun haggling over the sales price, and being sick just doesn't help one bit. I totally get it ... I would have done the very same thing. It's not worth the hassle. Rest up and get well ...

  8. Well Doug, the title of your blog today is always our motto too even though we were happy with what they gave us on the trade in on the Jayco. Of course we were buying from them too. At least she's gone. I have to admit reading your comments about Miss Adventure made me tear up a little. I'm sure she will sell quickly and then that'll all be over. WE hate going anywhere near Phoenix for the traffic reason..uhhhhh... Hoping you feel better with a little rest and relaxation. Then on to new adventures in the White Lion :)

  9. Some people are meant for haggling, others not. Unfortunately, most times the dealers never lose.i think you did okay, Miss Adventure did you well for a number of years and you spiffed her up as much as you could. She will sell quickly. Not your concern anymore, you have beautiful times ahead in your White Lion.
    Lovely sunset pictures!
You deserve the rest, take it slow!

  12. I would have done the same as you Doug. I'm not a haggler and in a position like yours all's I want to do is get it over with, get out of there, and put it behind me. The worst part of the whole deal should be behind you now and frees your mind to deal with the present and look forward to the future.
