The Santa Ana winds came in last night as predicted and howled all night long, rattling everything that wasn't tightly secured. When I got up at 9 o'clock, it was still howling outside. Luckily, the sand wasn't kicking up here, but looking at the mountains, they were hard to see.
It was about 12:30, Yuma and I had enough of the wind and decided to drive through one of the badland gorges below us and be out of the wind. The choice we made was to take the Tectonic Gorge, going to the right. It is about 4 1/2 miles of up and down, rough and winding, OHV torn up road going through the Badlands. We came up on a sign at the beginning of our trek. I didn't know they made a movie in here. Not much to say about the rest of the winding miles, except, Yuma was in my lap the whole way. He hates bumpy roads and this certainly fit that description. I stopped along the way to take pictures and to let him sniff around and run around. How is that rock holding on? |
Couldn't get the Jeep in there. |
The fence is there to keep vehicles from getting too close. |
After a 2 hour grueling Jeep ride, we finally came up into the wind and flat ground once more. We were directly across from the satellite tower.
It was late in the day, and Tom came over to tell me someone had just moved in down below in the OHV area and to follow him and Deb down there.
Yuma and I jumped in the Jeep and followed. To my surprise, Deb and Riley had moved down there to get out of the wind. I can see them from my perch on top of the cliff. No picture, because it was nearly dark by the time we came home after our visit with them.
Quite cool tonight. Time for some chicken and potatoes and then to bed. Tomorrow is move day.
Thanks for stopping by.
Pretty pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of all that wind. Glad it stopped for the next couple of days.
ReplyDeleteWe had talked about parking here a few days ago but I guess better late than never.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Nice pictures of the Jeep ride though it did sound bumpy when you were describing it. Interesting sign about the X Files. Glad the wind is quiet this morning.
ReplyDeleteThe area where you returned to the pavement is part of the Southern Truckhaven Trail. It is definitely a bit technical in spots. Thanks for the ride.
ReplyDeleteIt was a certainly blustery night.
That was a beautiful drive! Glad it was you and not me from the sound of it LOL. We always have a lot of wind here in NV. More than not, but you get used to it.
