Lazy day and a visit to Borrego Springs

Woke up at 6:30 and it was too early to get up, so Yuma and I just laid around in bed, while I did my brain teasers and finally we got up at 8 o'clock and when I looked out my window, I had a close neighbor.  I was suspecting the 4 wheelers would be here this weekend, but not today.

Yuma met their dog, so I went over to say hello.  I met Matt and Ron, father and son, who live along the coast of southern California and come here sometimes to run their Razor in the badlands.  I took a picture of down below where they congregate and today it is empty.

Just as we went outside, our friend, the kite flyer came by.  I thought Yuma was going to run right off the cliff after him, but thankfully he stopped.

Salton Sea to the east.
Yuma and I spent the morning and early afternoon, just eating breakfast and enjoying the beautiful day.
At 2:30, I decided to run into Borrego Springs for a little sightseeing and gas for the Jeep.  Its about 20 miles west of where I'm staying.  The road is S22 and goes through the badlands into the town.  The San Ysidro Mountains tower behind the town protecting them from the San Diego crowd.
First thing I see as I leave the badlands is Coyote Mountain and the Clark dry lake.
First stop was at a fruit stand that now stands empty.  When Dolly and I were here a number of years ago, it was stocked with oranges, apples and grapefruit and you bought it on the honor system.  Cute place, even now.  Used to have orange trees behind it, but they are all gone now.
Next, it was to the Christmas Tree Circle, so Yuma could walk on grass.
It's a small town but unique.  Basically, just one street that ends at the base of the mountains.

I'm going to stop now and tomorrow, I'll show you the pictures of the metal sculptures that are spread around the outskirts of the town.

Time for dinner and rest.  I plan to take it easy tomorrow and watch the 4 wheeler crowd come in to have their fun.  If I'm lucky, I may get a ride on their Razor.  Never know.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. It was a nice relaxing day for you and Yuma. Your new neighbors look ready for a busy weekend of four wheeling. I'm glad Yuma didn't run off the cliff chasing that glider! Don't fall off the Razor!

  4. Borrego Springs has long been our go to spot, looking forward to the sculptures you visited. Glad to have met you two there, wish it worked out this year, but ...
The comet may be visible if the dust from the off-road folks settles :)

  7. Hopefully you do get a ride in the razor,, they are too much fun! I love watching the crowds like that on the weekends. We used to go to Sand Mountain even if we didn't take our quads just to watch! Too much fun!
