Sunday, February 18, 2018 – Location: Saddle Mountain near Tonopah, Arizona
Woke up with the sun today around 7 o’clock. Took awhile for the sun to get to me because I am at the west base of the mountain. Watched as the sunlight slowly creeped up the mountainside till it got to me. Beautiful morning with blue skies and a temperature of 53 with no wind.
Sat outside till I got hungry and then went in to make bacon and eggs. Around 9:30 with a full stomach Yuma and I decided to walk a little ways to a canyon near my MH that has petroglyphs from the Indians that roamed this area. The area I’m heading to is up that canyon.
There are a lot more in the area but that is all I found today. Didn’t take long and I kept eyeing the large mountain and thought I could see a way up that may be interesting, so Yuma and I started climbing. No plans to go very high, just till we got tired.
We started up the mountain. Can you see the dark crease in the center. That’s where water comes down the mountainside.
Part way up we ran into this dead Mountain Sheep. I should have taken a hint but we kept trucking up and not looking down.
After about three hours we were even with or over the tops of the peaks around us. The one we are climbing is the highest of all the peaks on Saddle Mountain.
We ended up climbing three quarters the way up the mountainside on the left and we ended up level with the peak on the right. Over three hours of climbing and about two miles. The remaining section to the top of the mountain was beyond my capabilities, so we didn’t try.
After a long rest, Yuma and I decided to run down the mountainside in search of Deb and Riley of On a long and lonesome highway…
I knew about where they were from reading their blog and I stayed close to their site last year when I was here. This is my second visit with them. Only other bloggers outside the Bloggerfest I have visited more is Al, Kelly and the Pheebs of Travel With The Bayfield Bunch
We had a nice visit. At first, we sat in the shade and then a breeze came up and we moved into the sunlight. Talked about everything that RVers and bloggers talk about. Yuma just loved Riley. She has a way with animals and Yuma can sense that. Yuma had a stare down with Miss Kitty through the screen door. Few grrrs from Yuma but that was all. Then Miss Kitty went about her business. Never know, may see them again on down the road.
Tired from my hike tonight and so is Yuma. Sure we will sleep good tonight.
See you later.
No picture of Miss Kitty? I'm glad you had such a good visit. Gee, I hope you don't get a torrential downpourand get washed away! Looks like you're right at the end of the waterline. Beautiful pictures of your hike! The end of the day photo is spectacular! What a beautiful sunset! Have a good night. ❤
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. Stepped outside to put up TV antenna and there it was.
DeleteMiss Kitty is sneaky. Didn't want her picture taken.😂
That climb wore me and Yuma out. Much more than I planned as usual.
Goodnight 😘.
The pictures you took of the climb you and Yuma made are wonderful. It is amazing that the Petroglyphs are there. Then a visit with Deb and Riley. Sounds like a very nice day.
ReplyDeleteLove the last picture the colors are beautiful.
Tha KS Deb. It was a long and fun day. Just now climbing out of bed. My tired bones needed the rest.
DeleteIt was nice to have a second visit with Deb and Riley. They work together we'll getting things done around the RV.
Cute picture of Yuma eye ballin' those sheep bones. Don't know if he is thinking how big of one he can drag home ? or - just making sure he doesn't meet the same fate. 😱
ReplyDeleteYuma was curious. He and I were both tired after that climb. Me a little more I think.
DeleteThat climb was beautiful! How cool that there are petroglyphs to see. A visit with Deb and Riley to round out the day, nice! The last picture is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley. Glad I stepped outside or I would have missed the moon shot.
DeleteWe had a busy day. There are lots of petroglyphs around here. Will look fo more today.
Good to see Deb and Riley. Yuma and Riley really get along.
The pictures from your climb were awesome! That is quite a hike! The petroglyphs are very cool, interesting stuff when we stop to think about them.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you visited Deb and Riley after your hike. Such great gals!
Thanks Patsy. As usual, my mountain climb was spur of the moment. So glad I took water.
DeleteHad a nice visit with Deb and Riley. They really like this area.
Another interesting day of exploring and visiting.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Thanks Rick. One of those climbs I won't be doing again, but glad I was up to it.
DeleteFew falls and I can feel them today. A take it easy day I hope.
Wow, great pictures. Love the views from up there. Going to have make the effort myself to get up into that country some more.
ReplyDeleteRiley and I were so happy to see you again. We enjoy your company very much. Riley thinks Yuma is just the sweetest thing. We counted, visit three. Two at Borrego Springs (the first meeting and then the day after we left a note for you at your MH) and one here. Feel free to drop by anytime.
I didn't walk up the side to see the tortoise burrow I was on the other side near the roadway, it was much easier to walk and I was looking for the big horn sheep but didn't see them.
We're going to take that trail you mentioned that goes behind the mountains. That should be fun.
Too bad you didn't see a Big Horn. My dead one doesn't count.
DeleteEnjoyed our visit. If I see that tortoise I'll come and get you and Riley.
I'll be doing that drive into the mountain soon myself.
I bet you slept GREAT after that 3 hour hike up the mountain! And that's a cool picture of you waiting on the sun this morning. :) I think it's awesome that you get to catch up with old friends every year! Love the pic of you and Yuma! I love you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah. I was pretty sore last night but felt much better after a good night's sleep. That Yuma is a ham! Love you.
