Picacho State Recreation Area

 This morning at 9 o'clock as I was laying in bed reading blogs, I was also thinking of what we should do today.  The weather will be great but slightly on the cool side with a north breeze, but a high of 63.

I remembered the Jeep drive I took two years ago with Jerry as guide along with Deb and Riley, and Tom and Deb.  Unfortunately, I had forgotten how rough the drive was 😞

We had a quick breakfast and off at 11 o'clock.  About 15 minutes up the road I remembered I had forgotten my billfold and we needed gas to make this journey.  At 11:25 we were finally on our way.

Drove quickly into Yuma to get gas and then right back out to Winterhaven and on our way to Picacho Peak and the recreation area.

Now I remembered the 18 miles north on Picacho Road was filled with water board ripples making for a slow and bumpy ride.

Just as were getting close to Picacho Peak, we passed the Picacho open pit mines.

Finally after 18 miles of bone jarring road.

We finally came around a corner and there we were at the mighty Colorado River.  There is a boat ramp at the park and I'm sure it's easier to get here by water.

We didn't spend much time at the park.  There was not a soul there today.  Just us.  From there we turned at a sign that said Ogilby Road 27 miles.  I hoped it would be a better road but I was very wrong.  It wasn't long into the drive that we passed a sign saying "4 wheel drive only".😱 And boy did we need it. First place we passed was Taylor Lake only a few miles into the drive.

Soon we were at a point overlooking the Colorado River once more.

A tribute to our great nation!

The road if you want to call it that, finally left the river following a sandy wash for at least 10 miles.  And then into a rocky moon landscape for the last 10 miles before hitting Ogilby Road.

We arrived home at 5 o'clock and as soon as I opened the Jeep door, Yuma jumped out and headed straight over to the tent for Happy Hour.😁  He was ready to beg for snacks.  I was soon on my way and we sat around solving world problems and talking of food and before we knew it the sun was going down and time to call it a night.

I was soon cooking turkey cheeseburgers and a pork chop with potatoes and corn for dinner.  As we finished, the Monday Night Football game started and we finished the evening watching the game.  If the Browns win, Nick will win the family pool two weeks in a row.😄
