Busy Day but not all Roses

Slept fairly well last night, but worried a little that I may be stuck here 30 miles from any motorhome help.  Oh well, that's a problem for another day.

Got up around 8:30 and made my coffee.  The sun was bright and by the time my coffee was ready, it was time to sit outside and enjoy the morning.  They're calling for possible rain showers this afternoon.

Reading my comments, one of my commenters mentioned washing the inside of the radiator.  My brother-in-law, Evan mentioned the same thing yesterday when I called him for advice.  Look how dirty those radiator fins are.

So, this morning, I hooked a hose to my outside faucet and sprayed it and then sprayed some Dawn soap on it and let it sit for a bit.  Then I sprayed the inside and outside of the radiator.  There are no stores within 30 miles, so I made do with what I had.

While waiting for it to dry, Yuma and I made a quick trip into Salton City to see if we could get down to the sea.

We drove around not knowing how to get down to the sea.  Very depressing.  Most houses are in really bad shape.  The roads are terrible.  There a some very nice houses too, but they are in the minority.  Every time, I got close the road ended and signs said no trespassing.
Close as I got today.  I'll try again when I have more time.  The wind is picking up and clouds are flowing over the Santa Rosa Mountains to the northwest.
It wasn't long and the wind was coming at us hard and the skies darkened.
When we got back home, I had the idea that I would start the White Lion and move in case it rains.  The place I'm in will turn to mud when wet.  Guess what!  It would not start.  Tried over and over to no avail.  Maybe my fears of ending in California will come true:(  Luckily, no rain so far.

We had a beautiful sunset!  Couldn't see the sun but the colors on the clouds are beautiful.

Getting my post out early tonight, before dinner.  Time to fix a pork chop and potatoes before calling it a night.  Poor Yuma is missing his friends and maybe I am a little bit. :)

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Well, that dang motorhome didn't want to start again. Maybe it will decide to tomorrow. I'm sure you and Yuma are missing your friends, especially right now. Beautiful pictures of the clouds coming over the mountains. Fantastic sunset tonight. Good luck getting that engine started tomorrow!

    1. Thank you Dolly. I do hope it starts because this is a horrible spot I'm in now. Very rough.

  2. Hopefully it won't rain tonight but maybe a good idea to sweet talk the White Lion tonight so you can move to more solid ground tomorrow. I'm sure you and Yuma feel a hollow from missing your friends.

    1. No rain. We don't want this to be the place that the WL decides to quit.

  3. Fingers crossed it does not rain overnight. Then, since, the White Lion does seem to be a morning RV it will start in the morning and you can get out of there.
There was wind here, also, wish we would have had some of those clouds that were over the Santa Rosa Mountains. Not the dark ones just the big white ones.
I would bet your friends are missing Yuma, also...and oh yes...lol...you...😊

    Great pictures.

  5. Dang! Hope the WL cooperates in the morning. The now abandoned Marina and Naval Base (4x4 required) make interesting Jeep destinations.

  6. Do you have a winch on your jeep? That might be something to think about.

    1. No winch. Not sure I want to tug a 15 ton motorhome.

  7. Great photos, love the shadows on the mountains. The WL likes mornings, seems to be her best starting times. There is an empty spot at happy hour and no cookies! I hope you have a better day.

  8. I think most of the roads to get to the actual water are on the East side of the sea. That's where all the movie star hotels were back in the day. Check out a map on your phone using Satellite View instead of Road View.

    1. I'll do that. Looks like a lot of the area is off limits on the west side.

  9. Doug, Photograph of your radiator/intercooler shows the buildup of dirt that is causing your overheating problem. Your start/no-start would seem to indicate an electrical problem because its intermittent, and I would look at your chassis battery main positive connection where you have a small gage wire along side the large main cable. If this small wire is not tight and making a good connection, your engine will not run. Suggest you remove the connector and check the small wire integrity! Good Luck, CarlGeo

    1. Yes, the backside of the radiator was filthy. Hope that does the trick. I'll check the wires.
