Move to Tucson, Arizona

Location:  The RV Park at the Pima County Fairgrounds, Tucson, Arizona

Today is move day and I am going to an RV Park to work on a few items on the White Lion.  This morning I got up around 8 o'clock and it is another beautiful day.  Going to have a little more wind today though.

Yuma and I took our walk and I had to take a few last shots of my surroundings.  To my eye this area is just beautiful and I would stay forever.  But, I say that about a lot of areas here in the southwest.  :))

The Whetstone Mountains.

The Mustang Mountains.

White Lion with the Whetsone Mountains.

I was so busy with my post last night I forgot to add the beautiful sunset.

I'm certainly going to miss those sunsets over the grasslands of southern Arizona. :((

At noon, we were packed and moving on.

One last goodbye.

It was only about an hour drive up highway 82 and then I turned left on E. Sahuarita Road and then right on S. Houghton Road and then turned into the Pima County Fairgrounds.
The RV park is in just a big parking lot, but it is open, has full hook-ups and the price is $150 a week.  The rules are they must have an open site on all sides of each RV which is nice and the bathrooms are not open which is fine by me.

This week, I've got to look into why my black and grey tanks are not emptying.  May be something simple or it may be a larger issue.  I was going to try and fix it myself, but have decided against it.  I would probably spill everything on the park grounds and then I would be in a pickle.

The manager gave me the name of someone to call and I will do that tomorrow.  I may try running a water line up the septic pipe just to see if it quickly opens the line.  If anyone has a better suggestion let me know.

I turned off my inverter and plugged into 50 amp power and all is running great.  If it gets too hot I can run my air conditioners.  The water is running great too.  Just can't dump my tanks. :((

Here's where I'm parked.

Some nice motorhomes for company.

Right across from the dog park so Yuma won't have to go far for his duties.  He's already been watching other dogs and whines to go out.  Hope that stops soon.  Not the beautiful place I was staying this morning but it will do.

Yuma and I made a quick four mile run up to a Walmart to check it out and get some chocolate and vanilla pudding because I had the last tub last night and can't go without my dessert tonight. :))

That's it for today.  See you later.

  1. You did have a nice spot out there, but I am like you, when I want to fix sewer things it is better done in an RV park rather than out on the prairie. I'm betting your have a poop pyramid that is blocking things up for you. It is a typical problem if the unit has been in an RV park setting for a long time.
We like to park at Snyder Hill BLM on the south side of Tucson but it probably isn't open right now. The casino used to be a stand by as well but I hear it is closed to RVs or is charging some crazy price!! Hope you get your problems fixed cheaply.

  2. Glad you made it to the RV park. I know you'll miss the beautiful grasslands. Yuma will miss his coe friends, too! 😀 Hopefully your sewage problems will be ixed straight away. It's a good thing there was a Walmart close by. Can't go without dessert. 😀

    1. Thanks Dolly. Short drive. Took me longer to pack and unpack than it did to get here. :)) it was a pretty sunset. I don't think Yuma will miss those cows one bit.

  3. If the problem is the pyramid that Lorne describes there is something you can try. Happened to us twice over the years. The remedy other RV'ers suggested was to dump a bag or two of ice cubes down your toilet then take the rig for a drive. The ice cubes will slosh around like rocks and chip away at that poop pyramid. Might sound a little bizarre but it worked for us. Don't let anyone tell you to drop a stick of dynamite down there to loosen things up...…..:))

    1. I was just thinking about putting a stick of dynamite in there. I remember now you telling us that you used ice cubes. I'll give it a try and see if that does the trick before calling a plumber. Thanks for the tip.

  4. I bought a RV HYDRO FLUSH 45 Degree drain fitting. Item# 14496 $26.99

It fits between your sewer hose and drain connection and you then hook up a water hose to the Hydro Flush, open your black tank valve and turn on the water full blast. If there is a blockage in the tank the water pressure goes up the flush hookup and will help with clean the blockage. You will be able to see the water coming thru the Hydro Flush and watch to see when the water turn from clear to brown and it will help open the black tank.

Its hard to describe, but if you look at the item on Camping World it will be clearer to you. I've had to use is it a few times over the years and never travel without it if I will be parked in one place for a while.

If you want you can notify my and I will send you my email address.

    Good luck.

    1. Larry, that sounds exactly like what I need. There is a Camping World 17 minutes from here. Thank you very much for the suggestion. I will call them tomorrow or just go by and see if they have one I can buy or order.:))

  5. I don't think your problem is a pyramid if the grey tank won't empty also . Sounds like some where in the piping there is a stuck main valve that control's the main line from both tanks. Are your valves electric , could be a power problem ? But Al has been at this a lot more than I and I should would trust his advice . Good luck Vern in Boise

    1. I think you're right Vern. The problem is right where the two lines come together. Valves are manual and don't push and pull very easily. I think I'll try Clark's hydro flush if I can get one. Thanks for the idea of the stuck valve.

    2. I would be careful using the Hydro Flush until you can open the valves. It will send water into your tanks quickly,at high pressure, you don't want your tanks backing up into your bathroom. Good Luck! Becki

  6. Thanks Becki. I'll go slow at first and not blast away and watch what's happening. After a month my tanks are already pretty full I believe.

  7. I like the ice cube trick that Al and Kelly used. We've not had to do that but it makes sense before you go out and spend $$ on anything else. Good luck!
I'm sure Yuma and you both were sad to leave that lovely prairie setting.

    1. We're still close and I may just have to go back there:)) Got lots of good ideas from commenter. Will be trying them before I make the $$ call.

  8. I'm glad the fairgrounds are open for travelers. They used to be $125 a week. Still a good price at $150. I have a name of a mobile repair guy I'll send to you. Haven't used him myself, but they say he's very good, although a little cranky. LOL

  9. We're glad you've got a home base for a week or so to get your problem figured out! It was beautiful where you were, but nice the fairgrounds aren't too crowded. Hope it's an easy fix for the WL.

  10. You mention 'tanks', as in neither tank is flushing, that's not a poop pile. Are you judging that by the sensor panel? or by not seeing/hearing any action when opening the valves?
The Fair Grounds is not the scenery you had on Darby Well Road, but you do have a place for the coming week. Stay Safe!

    1. Thanks Jeff. Seeing no action when opening both valves. A little trickle with the grey. Im sure there is a blockage at the place the two come together.

  11. Lots of times the Gate Valves need to be replaced as the seals dry out. The WL probably sat in Quartzsite for a while and it gets hot in the summer. That means connecting to the sewer, emptying the Tanks then replacing the Valves. Might as well do both at once.
You can probably head back to the Ranch after getting the repairs done.
Be Safe and Enjoy the change of Pace.

    It's about time.

  12. Thanks Rick. I looked out on the internet and saw some videos on replacing valves. Looks like something I can do.

  13. I think Nancy told us about the fairgrounds too. Fortunately my family had room for us but this looks like a good option if we ever need another option. The sunset pictures were spectacular.

    1. Thanks Elva. I think a place in a family's yard is better than a parking lot, but this is great for my short-term needs.

  14. Another contest? What's blocking the WL main line??? A critter nest? Dust and dirt? Two bad valves?
You'll dump to replace the valves :))

  15. Not another contest:(( I just want the problem to be gone:))
