Mittry Lake near Yuma, Arizona
Woke up at 5:30 this morning and it was dark, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. Next thing I knew it was after 8 o'clock and the sun was out and not a cloud in the sky. That's great!

Finally, I decided today would be a good day to run into town and get a quick lube job and wash for the Jeep. Then maybe run out to the American Girl Mine area and see if I could find Deb and Riley for a surprise visit. I should have known it was going to be a bad day when I forgot my new camera and had to use my cell phone. :((
About 1:15 we jumped in the Jeep and headed up to the Laguna Dam Road and around the lake towards Winterhaven, California. I had googled and found a Jiffy Lube at 900 4th Street that gave a free car wash with a lube job.
Takes about 40 minutes to get there and wasn't long before the Jeep was being lubed and Yuma and I were waiting outside in the beautiful weather.
The Jeep was done in about 20 minutes and I pulled into the car wash line and then it happened. The wash line just stopped moving. Evidently, this is one of those car washes that pulls you through and someone got off the track. I waited 30 minutes and still not moved.
Talked to the attendant and he said there was one on 32nd Street and the free car wash would apply there. So, I got out of line jumped the curb onto 4th Street and started looking for the next Jiffy Lube.
I have to say, this is the most crowded town I've ever been in. I don't think anyone works here, just drives around getting in my way and making lines. It was so crowded down by the Airport where all cars seem to meet that I drove by the Jiffy Lube by two miles before I turned off the road to check Mr. Google again.
Got to the Jiffy Lube and now it is passed 3 o'clock and finally got my Jeep washed. Didn't get home till almost 4:30 and by that time the Jeep was dirty once more. I'm sure I would rather drive 20 miles of bad bumpy dirty desert road rather than drive into Yuma.
Sorry for the rant! The next hour or so before dinner is back to normal. Laying in the sun, writing blogs and fixing dinner. Life is good and the weather is great. What do I have to complain about. I'm retired and have nothing better to do anyway.
Looking forward to a Jeep road trip for me and Yuma tomorrow early, so better get packed and set the alarm.

You've been in the desert long enough to know you can wash the mud off but not the dust - the dust returns so quickly. I bet the Jeep looked good for awhile, and it's ready for the next adventure.
ReplyDeleteTrue Jeff. At least the mud from the last rain is gone. Tomorrow will be a good dirty test run for the Jeep. Hope to have some great pictures.

DeleteKnow what you mean by that downtown Yuma traffic. It was never my favorite place to be either. A lot of Kamikaze drivers in Yuma. That kind of traffic madness is not something I miss by not traveling this winter.

DeleteIt would have been nice to see you and Yuma today but we will see you tomorrow for sure and I'll give you some directions so you can come out for a visit. I like the photos of Yuma racing around, he's such a cutie.

DeleteEvery time we have been to Yuma, the traffic is a nightmare. Sure makes it nice to escape back to a peaceful home out in the desert.

ReplyDeleteThe town of Yuma is indeed busy but maybe as Nancy says, we are some of those OLD folks and blend right in. Just kidding, we're not old!!! There are certainly a lot of crazy drivers but I don't find it any different than driving in London, the city we worked and lived in for over 30 years.
btw you can rant all you want, we'll listen. :)
Thanks Patsy. Nancy is right. It is the old folks. At first I thought you meant London, England then I remembered you probably meant London, Canada. I'm from a fairly small Midwestern town where 4 cars at a stoplight is alot. :))
