Finally made it to the Big Q

Location:  Dome Rock Road in Quartzsite, Arizona

Last night was a little noisier than I like.  Sounded like jets taking off when those big trucks would cross the bridge on I-10.

Had a leisurely breakfast and just threw everything into the MH since I will just be taking it all out again real soon.  Wasn't in a rush to leave since we had less than 20 miles to travel today.  Best kind of traveling!  It was, however, scenic because we went through the Dome Rock Mountains.

Finally back in my favorite state of Arizona.

Then we turned onto Dome Rock Road West and in less than two miles we pulled into the first vacant site I found.  Still closer to I-10 than I prefer, but the noise will be minimal.  I think we'll like it here.  Close to Quartzsite, but away from the madding crowds.
Dome Rock is behind us.
Took a little time to set-up and look around and then settled in for the rest of the morning.  But around 1 o'clock I just couldn't wait around any longer.  You see, I've had my eye on this particular motor home for sale in Quartzsite for awhile.  Just couldn't get it out of my head.

As we were driving to see it, I told myself that if the pictures were touched up and it really didn't look like them, I would just forget it and go no further.  This winter particularly,  I have gotten tired of just not having the space to store anything or just plain stretch out.   Don't tell Dolly about my little side excursion today.  Not sure what her reaction would be.

Now, I have to tell you, it is not a new motor home by any means.  It's a 1999 Safari Serengetti.  You know, the ones with the beautiful African paintings on the back you see once in awhile driving down the road.

Just what one old man and his dog needs!  A 40 footer with a 330 HP Cat diesel engine and one slide.  No downsizing for me, No Siree!  I want legroom and lots of storage space to boot.  Never know, Dolly may boot me out of the house and I'll be living in it full-time. :))  Now I've got to show you the pictures I took of it today.

Thinking of naming it the "White Lion".  I know, it's a white tiger, but I'm a Leo and that's just a thought.  Let me know if I'm breaking all naming rules and I won't do it.
I was adamant that there would be no booth kitchen table.  I have one and it is very uncomfortable to sit in.  I like chairs that I can move around.
Beautiful kitchen area.  Corian counter tops and real oak wood.
Black double door refrigerator with a lower freezer.

Look at the size of that thing.
Little over the top for my taste but, who knows.  Maybe it's just what Dolly wants.  :))
I didn't get a picture of the washer/dryer combo and the separate bathroom area.  Does have a big tub/shower combo which I like.

Room enough to walk around to change sheets.  I hate changing the sheets in this MH. :((  So, I don't do it.
Oh well, I'm just dreaming.  Yuma doesn't mind getting dirt and hair in our small little MH.  And this may be last year of traveling anyway.  You know, bla bla bla.  The blas are for all the reasons I should drop this whole idea.

It was time to get out of there and find Tom and Deb.  I had gotten an invite to come to their "Happy Hour" at 3 o'clock.  Heck, I just got done with breakfast and they're thinking about Happy Hour already.  But, I have to remember, I've lost an hour of life by leaving California lazy time.

Oh, oh!  Houston, I have a problem.  I'm not sure where they are staying and this small town is now the size of a city.  My cellphone battery went dead before I left and I left it to charge never thinking I would not be able to see their beautiful black and yellow "Stinger Bee" in the thousands of motorhomes scattered everywhere in this desert.

So, since I couldn't call and ask for directions, I wandered around for about an hour through various RV parks.  Finally, gave up and Yuma and I went home in defeat.  Oh, the crowds in "Q"!

Texted Deb with my failed efforts and she said the invitation would stand for one more day, but only one.  So, tomorrow it is.  Yuma and I relaxed till the sun set and then back to the grind of blogs and dinner.
Dome Rock.

See you later.

  1. Beautiful area you're in now. Well, that was some motor home you were looking at. Wonder if you could even back it into the shanty - part way. 😁 Tom and Deb must be deserting you. Enjoy your new spot near Q.

    1. Thanks Dolly. You're right about the parking. I'm not sure I could even get it in the driveway. So many blas. I was just kidding about the one more invite. I'm sure Tom and Deb would allow two if I begged :))

    1. Thanks Lorne. Seems we're just never happy with what we got, does it. Next, I'll be like Al and Kelly and want a Class B. A, B or C, which is it?

  3. Think of all those parties you and Yuma could host in 40' of luxury! And you'd not have to go into town to do laundry ... Enjoy the Happy Hour, and do the best with the crowds.

Have you thought of adding a 'Search' to you blog? Blogger offers it.

    1. Thanks Jeff. But I like going to the laundromat. You meet the nicest people there. I'll check out the Search and add it tonight if I can.

  4. Buy it!!!! Hey, you only go around once! It is a beauty, to be sure, but then you'd have to change the sheets. Believe me, it's no fun changing them even if you CAN get around the bed. I stay out around mile marker 91 or so (I think). It's much quieter and closer to the Stinger Bee.

    1. I like your attitude Nancy! We think alike. You're probably right about the sheets. I still wouldn't change the sheets. I am going to move again today. That highway noise is just too much.

  5. That's a nice looking Motorhome inside and lots of interior space is always welcome but it's getting all that interior space from point A to point B that we finally had enough of. I know right about where you are at Dome Rock. We stayed there for a couple nights last winter while getting some work done on our rig in Quartzsite.

    1. I'll probably have to learn that lesson too. Was it the cost or just the shear size in traffic and parking lots like Walmart? I'm staying on the west side till I get this buying itch out of my system one way or another.

  6. Well Darn!!!! We're going to miss you as we are getting back on the road heading home :( ! I have to agree with Nancy " buy it!" It's a beauty for sure..Yeah the sink is a little over the top but...Someone really took good care of the rig! If the price is right...Nice countertop space in the kitchen too! We drove out by dome rock yesterday about 10 looks like there was still quite a bit of space available. We'll hope to meet up with you next year unless you go home by way of northern Nevada. We'll leave the light on for ya!

    1. Thanks Shirley. I knew you two had plans to leave today, that's why I spent so much time looking. Can't believe I couldn't see the Stinger Bee! If I buy this monster, Nevada is not out of the question. I want to go to Death Valley. Is that far out of the way from you? Or are you near Winnemucca?

  7. Looks like you found a nice campsite & the Safari "White Lion" is certainly a nice rig. As long as Yuma approves it should be fine.! 😎

    1. Thanks Moonfly. Yuma probably doesn't care as long as he's with me. But Dolly is another matter. Haven't heard a yes or no indication from her. I'll take silence as a yes! :))

  8. Nice looking Rig. I'm certain that Dolly would start traveling with you again.
If you move a little closer to town and turn up Cholla Road you won't hear the traffic from I-10.
Tom and Deb along with the Stinger B are in La Posa South past the Water/Dump Stations on the south side of the road.
Be Safe ad Enjoy the search.

    It's about time.

  9. That is a beautiful motor home! You and Yuma would definitely have stretch out room in there. You definitely get a second invite...seriously, and I think you know this, that is an open invitation. Dolly, we have not deserted him...LOL

    1. You're right about the dreaming. Makes life more enjoyable. I hope the engine in this thing is reliable. That's my biggest concern with purchasing it.

  11. Wow, nice looking rig. The older ones with the lighter colored wood are a favorite of mine. Cat engines are definitely solid but can be pricey to repair I'm told. Whatever you decide will be the right decision for you.
Sorry we missed you at HH. We're heading that way on Sunday so hopefully we'll meet up.
    Stay safe!

    1. Thanks Dave. I think I'll join the group for HH on Sunday too. I'm hoping the Cat engine will be as faithful as my 450 Ford has been.
