Tanks and more tanks

Mittry Lake near Yuma, Arizona

Twenty-twenty has begun and I don't mean the TV news series.  With all the shooting we have had around here, I was sure Yuma would have a bad night.  But is was as quiet as the Silence of the Lambs.  Never heard a thing all night long.  I even caught the sunrise.  Well, not really.  The color was to the Northeast so I took a picture of that instead.
Hope everyone is feeling okay today and ready for the New Year.  Heard some bad news first off this morning though.  My son Steve and his wife Tracie lost Pebbles, one of their two beloved pet dogs this morning.  She had been failing for a while now and this morning she was in such pain, they took her to the vet and had her euthanized.  Not a good way to start the New Year for them.

After my breakfast this morning, Yuma and I headed to Best Buy to pick up my new camera.  There was an email in my inbox saying it was waiting for me.  Beautiful day for a drive.  Sun shining, warm temperatures and no wind.  Going to be a shorts kind of day.

Went into the store and about three minutes later I was out the door.  I like that kind of service.  We then ran over to the CVS pharmacy to pick up a few things and we were home shortly after 2 o'clock.  I changed into shorts and laid outside for over an hour as the battery for the camera charged.

Had to try it out, so Yuma was my first test subject.
We then drove over to the Army tanks and missile display near the East entrance to the Yuma Proving Grounds and guess what?  You get to see tanks and missiles.  I saved you some agony and didn't put them all on this post.

I noticed I do not see any difference in the quality of the pictures, but that's okay.  I have my viewer back.

As we were returning to our camp, I just had to take a picture of the Army base water tower.  I've probably mentioned this before but after WWII, my Dad stayed in the service and I just remember as a small kid, when we returned home from a trip, I would see the orange and white water tower and know we were close to home.

That was our day.  It cooled considerably as soon as the sun started to set, so time to cook dinner and call the first day of 2020 over.
Hope you have a great 2020.  See you later.

  1. I hate to disagree, but I think the pictures with your new camera look very sharp. Good pictures of that armament. Yuma must have been grateful for the quiet last night

    1. Thanks Jeff. I do like the new camera and can't wait to get to an area with lots of color. Also can't wait to use the zoom. But now I'm afraid to take it out in all this dust. Bummer. Have a great 2020.

  6. Photos look good Doug and that is quite a collection of Tanks. I remember seeing them a few years ago. I hear the military has large troop para-drops out there in that area. We've never seen them but apparently they take place after day break some time north of your location I think. Might be some good exercise for your zoom.

    1. Thanks Al. My bedroom window faces North so maybe I'll watch for them at daybreak. Lots of shooting so Yuma doesn't like it here.

  8. Oh that is so sad about Pebbles, only too well and only too recently, we know what that is like. Not a happy memory for New years.
BTW, I love your blog picture at the top. Have been meaning to say that for a while.
Your pictures look great and nothing like being to see in a view finder while taking them. Yuma was a perfect (and well posed) first subject. :)

  9. Your pictures are always so sharp and clear but I am guessing it is nice to have the viewer and be able to see what you are taking pictures of. Really like the one of the morning sky even if it was with the old camera.
Sorry to read about your son and wife's pet dog, Pebbles. Never easy to lose a beloved pet they become such a part of the family.

    1. Thank Shirley. It was kinda unexpected so it hurt worse.I would like to say my camera and I are great, but I do have to give a lot of credit to my photo editing tool. Happy New Year!

  11. Very fitting that Yuma should be the first photo on your new camera. He does seem a little melancholy this year. He has a desert adventure to enjoy - but still home lingers in the back of his mind . Love the deep blue sky in the military pics. 😎

    1. Thank you Moonfly. I thought of you when I took the picture. I wonder if Yuma misses home. Dolly spoiled him when we stayed home last year. :)) But he does love to run the desert trails.
