Montezuma Pass

Yesterday, I finished my post with us in the middle of a complete smoke whiteout near the top of Montezuma Pass.  When the smoke cleared, I could see the mountains ahead and the smoke and fire were now behind me.

I was glad Tom and Deb didn't run into the rear of the Jeep going through the thick smoke.  Yuma does not like fire, so he is not a happy passenger right now!😫  Pulled over to take a little breather.

Now we can take in some of the mountain views as we head to the summit.

Turned a corner and there was the parking lot at the top of the Montezuma Pass.  Looked back to see were we had come.

Then looked to see where we are headed when we head down to the east.  Lots of switchbacks😨  The mountain in the background is in Mexico.  If you look closely you can see the fence snaking along in the far distance.
While at the top of the pass, we walked around and looked at the views and of course pictures of ourselves to prove we were here.😀

Time to head home.  We are getting tired and we want to get home before dark.

One last look of the sign at the east entrance to the memorial and we headed for home.  One last picture of the east side of the Whetstone Mountains before I turn west on hwy 82 towards Sonoita.
Needless to say, we were all tired by the time we got home around 5:30.  I slept fairly soundly until about 8 o'clock this morning and woke up to a nice warm and sunny day.  Last night got down to 30 degrees but I had the light on in the water bay and all was good.

I'm thankful for the nice warm day with no consistent winds blowing because I plan to rest.  As I sat outside, a man walked by on the road with a dog and of course Yuma had to meet the dog.  Asked if it was okay and it was fine.  His name was Rick and his dog was a friendly one year old.  The two of them raced around while we talked.

Later, around noon, Yuma started barking and I looked across the road to see a couple of cowboys herding cattle towards the pond over there.  The Empire Ranch is a working ranch and is a big operation with over 600 cows.  First time I have seen real cowboys with chaps and lassoes.

This cow is trying to cut and run but the cowboy is making sure that doesn't happen and gets it back into the herd.
Later in the afternoon, Tom took his water bladder and put 45 gallons in the Stinger "B".  When he was done, he asked if I wanted water.  Since I was down to 35 gallons, I said sure and we went back and got another bladder full of water for the White Lion.  I'm good till I get home now I believe.

At around 4 o'clock we got together at my place for Happy Hour.  It was a beautiful late afternoon with just a slight breeze.  First time we've been able to sit outside in the evening for nearly a week.  I'm so glad the cold weather is behind us.  Not used to being cold😨

Called it a night around 6 o'clock and I made a couple of hotdogs for dinner and as I finish this post, it is 10 o'clock!  Definitely time for me to go to bed.

Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Looks like it turned out to be a nice day for exploring after you got past the smoke.
Before heading home it might be wise to lighten your load and dump your waste tanks.
