Cell Phone is History

Saturday, February 7, 2015

Mellow sunrise this morning while Yuma and I were out for our morning walk through the cactus field.  Everything out here has sharp edges.image

This morning Al, Kelly and Pheebs came over at 8:30 and we drove down to the end of my jeep road and started our grid search.  Wouldn’t really call it a grid search, but we did walk that whole area and never found the phone.

Al and I wandered all over the place and Kelly was searching and in contact with my son, Jim who was calling my cell phone in hopes we would hear it ring.  But nothing.  It was not long before the phone went straight to voice mail as the battery died.  The reason we had to use Jim’s phone was because for some reason, Kelly’s phone with another carrier would go straight to voice mail.

Pheebs and Yuma were tired and hot, so they found some shade near the jeep.  I really appreciate Al and Kelly taking their time to help me search.  Great people.image

I went back out in the afternoon for one more attempt, but nothing.  Just had to give it one more try before calling it quits.  My feet and legs ache from two days of walking difficult terrain.

We did the best we could.  It was a beautiful day for a phone search and it would have been a great ending if we had found it.  After doing my best, it does not bother me to just forget it and leave it to the desert.  This is nothing like losing Yuma that one day.

Now I need to make plans to leave this area I have grown to really love.  The solitude here grows on you more and more each day.  If I never get to travel another winter, I will always remember this place.  Not many come here because it is so remote, but that is what makes the area so special.   I have been fortunate to have visited, even if it was for only 10 days.

See you later.

  1. Never mind - after all, it's just a phone & can be replaced...your memories of a great place cannot be lost...cheers

    1. Thanks Leslie. When I'm over the hassle of getting a replacement, all will be good again. Part of me may be here forever, or hidden away for a surprised finder someday. I will wait on that phone call.

    1. It is amazing to be in such a remote place and still have friends near by. That is one of the good things about the RVing lifestyle.

  3. Maybe we didn't find the phone but we got us some always much needed exercise & it will go down as another memorable adventure here in the annals of this whole great RVing adventure we all are so fortunate to be on even it is just part time for some of us. Safe travels my friend:))

    1. You're right, Al. Although not the best circumstance, it still brought friends together for a common cause and does create good memories of the search we did together.

Thanks again, to all three of you. Have fun while here.

    1. You're right Cindy. Could have lost it in the snow back home, instead of this beautiful and unforgettable country.

  5. Well, Jim lost his phone in the washing machine and no matter what it was not to be saved. At least yours is sitting somewhere in one of the prettiest places ever. I do hope someone finds it in the future and charges it up. I would love to read about that phone call.

    1. It would be interesting to get a call and know where it was found. I cannot believe we couldn't find it during our search, but it was a large area. Because their are no trails, I just couldn't retrace the one I made. Oh well.
