BLM Land - Tucson, Arizona

When I woke up at 7 o'clock this morning I knew it was going to be one busy day.  Today is move day.  Yesterday afternoon and most of the night was very windy.  20+ mph windy!😜  Didn't get any packing done on the outside of the White Lion.

This morning I was up at 8 o'clock packing and getting everything ready to head out as soon as possible.  No coffee and no breakfast for either of us.😢  It was slow going but by 9:45 we were heading into Belly Acres to dump and take on water.

I'm going to leave the tanks dry until I put some sealant on the cracked valve.  Sure hope it works.  We were on our way out of Ajo at 11 o'clock heading towards Tucson on hwy 86 through Tohono O'Odham Nation Reservation.

It's a long fairly straight highway that will take me to Tucson.  Could have taken the Interstate, but this road has much prettier views.
At noon, we stopped at a pull-off and relaxed and had lunch since we missed our leisurely breakfast.  We are behind schedule for making it to our final destination before nightfall, so I had a back-up plan just for that situation.  After lunch, Yuma and I took a little walk around the area.  Very similar to the Ajo area here.

At 1 o'clock we were back on the road.  Yuma is getting braver.  He will lie on the dash and help me navigate now.
You can see the Quinlan Mountains behind Yuma and that is where the Kitt Peak National Observatory is located.
It wasn't long after passing this mountain that we were starting to see the outskirts of Tucson.   I had researched and found there is BLM land on the western outskirts of Tucson and that's where we're headed.  It is located just off hwy 86 just to the left.

Pulled into the first empty site and quickly disconnected the Jeep so I could go to Walmart.  While I was doing that Yuma found a friend and was having a great time running around.  It's 2:30 now and I left Yuma in the White Lion and headed the 20 minutes to Walmart.  I was low on everything so I knew it was going to take awhile.  Took me 2 hours to do my shopping and fill the Jeep with gas.

Took a few pictures of the White Lion and soon it will be dark and time to do my post and eat dinner.

As I was finishing my post, I saw red outside and grabbed my camera to take a look.   Very red sunset.
Time to post this thing and get Yuma and me some dinner.  Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I think I know where your at. There is a name for that BLM location west of Tucson but I can't think of it at the moment. We overnighted there once on our way west. I seem to recall the spot a little 'rough' with litter and broken glass, etc. Might have been some homeless people there as well with a few very old trailers. Being so close to a big city I guess its only natural. I'm guessing your next or next to next stop will be the Grasslands.

    1. Snyder Hill is the name I found out from a local. Only thing good about this place is that it is close to Tucson. You're right about the area. Overused and abused.

    1. Hey Rawn. This is not a good place and I'm leaving for the grasslands today. When I get settled in you can either come over or I can come over there.

  3. Glad you made it!! I've seen a couple others have the same problem with their tanks leaking. I hope you can get it fixed with sealant. That's rather a pain. We have to get together so I can map out where to stay in the Ajo area. I suppose I need to get a couple of solar panels first though. Love seeing Yuma on the dash!!!

  4. Nice spot on just outside of town. Hope you can find what you need to fix your leaking tank, or a tech to do it for you.
    Beautiful sunset.

    1. Thanks Cheri. It was truly long with the shopping added. Hate to shop. Yuma surprised me when he got on the dash while moving.

  6. Love the picture of Yuma on the dash. Beautiful sunset. We drove that highway and it's a very pretty drive. I'm looking forward to your thoughts of the BLM area. We considered staying there but there were many negative reviews. Take care!

    1. Thanks Elva. It is a beautiful drive and I enjoyed it. As for Snyder Hill BLM it's not a nice place to stay. My last time here. One night and out..

    1. I'm on the very edge against Old Ajo Road. The interior of this place is overcrowded and not too clean. Won't stay again unless just overnight. I do hate running errands. Especially at 4 o'clock in Tucson 🤯

  8. Last winter stayed at the Desert Diamond Casino across from the Airport in Tucson. If you go in and see security they give you a pass for up to a week. Far nicer and safer than where you are.

    1. Thank you Peter. I sure wish I knew that before I got here. Will file the info for future use. Since they stopped allowing free overnights at the Casino Del Sol I've been lost in Tucson.
