Hiking near Saddle Mountain

This morning, I overslept and didn’t wake till 8:30.  I think now that I have someone coming out to work on the White Lion I can now relax till Monday and enjoy the area.  By 10 o’clock, Yuma and I had eaten breakfast and were on the road to Saddle Mountain to visit Deb and Riley.  We arrived at 11:30.

Unfortunately, Riley was not feeling her old self with a sinus infection, so elected to stay home while Yuma, Deb and I hit the mountain trails.

It was a beautiful day.  Clear skies, no wind and high 60’s.  Perfect for hiking.  I haven’t walked for more than a mile for a year, so Deb took it easy on me.  She has a goal of 6000 steps a day.  Way over my head!

Our first trek was by foot up to the mountain base and then we took a long roundabout trail back to the Igloo as Deb and Riley call their 5th wheel home on wheel.  That was about 3 miles.  Perfect for my first hike.  Here are the pictures from the hike:

Let's go!

Let's go Dad

Be careful

Spotted an alien

Saguaros take on strange postures

Home at last!

Yuma is pooped out!

We rested for a bit and then decided to take the Jeep to the west side of Saddle Mountain and explore the Jeep roads close up to the mountain and explore along the base of the mountain, stopping at interesting places along the road.  Not really roads, but 4 wheel trails going along the base.  Here are the pictures from the trek in the Jeep:

It was 4 o’clock by the time I headed back to the White Lion.  I feel good right now, but I will probably ache in the morning.  Arrived home just as the sun set at 5:30.  Ate some dinner and now finishing my blog at 8:30.

Thanks for stopping by.

  7. I'm guessing Yuma probably did 12,000 steps on the first hike. Cool petroglyphs. You'll have to show me where that is on a map. I'd love to check it out. Happy Veterans Day ... a good day to rest up. Give Yuma a nice pet for me.

You and Deb took what looks like a wonderful hike. I did not think it was possible to wear Yuma out, poor guy. Beautiful pictures.
