Not the Day I Planned!

Yuma and I slept in late this morning till 8:30.  No time change in Arizona so Dolly is only one hour ahead of me now instead of two.  That’s good!

Before I get too far, I want to mention that my son, Steve ran the Indianapolis Marathon yesterday.  He has run that marathon since it started, I think fourteen years ago.  His son, Nick ran the half marathon.  My daughter, Kristi and her son, Lane ran the 5K.  I’ve got a running family.  Congratulations to all four of them.

Yuma and I had breakfast and then I decided to start the White Lion and just run the engine awhile.  No luck!  It started and died several times, but the batteries just didn’t have the oomph.

So, I took those two monstrous 50 pound batteries out and took them to Auto Zone to test.  Sure enough they needed to be replaced.  Brought two new ones and brought them back and put them in and hooked them up.

Guess what there is no starting at all.  Nothing!  Not even a starter click.  I tried different things all afternoon to no avail.  I did find they were not fully charged, so I charged them and still nothing!

By late afternoon, I gave up and called Dolly to let her know I was getting low on enthusiasm and about ready to dump this thing.  After she gave me a little pep talk, I’ve decided to keep fighting.  I’m sure tomorrow with a little money, everything will be better.

Last night’s dinner from McDonalds was not very good, so it was back to good ole KFC for the 3 piece Big Box.  Never get tired of crispy chicken.  The CAT shop said they may be able to read the check engine code over the phone, but probably can’t if I can’t start the engine.  In the morning, I will call someone who knows what they are doing to come out and get this beast running.

Been a long frustrating day and I’m ready to hit the sack.  We’ll just have to see what tomorrow brings,

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Hmmmm this is very perplexing to say the least. Is this the same as last time it wouldn’t start? No clicking? I don’t remember. Hopefully it’s a minor thing and you are rolling the wheels soon. Good luck Doug.

  4. Doug, Check your positive battery cable at the battery. There should be a small, 14 ga. wire attached to the positive battery terminal along with the large main cable. This is an exciter wire and must be connected and if not there would be no click or any response from trying to start the engine. This may not be your problem, but the small exciter wire became loose on my Safari and I had nothing! Good Luck with the White Lion!!!

  5. Great photos of your running family.
Like Dolly says, don't give up the fight as long as there are available accessible options to you. We are all pulling for you and the White Lion. I've no doubt it is very discouraging.

  8. That was my thought ... check your connections again. Don't give up Doug ... she was running great, so it's probably something small. Hang in there!!

  9. I believe if you disconnect the battery - the OBD codes in the computer memory will clear.? Then you have to drive 50 - 100 miles to get the diagnostic codes to come up again. Not sure - ask a professional - and good Luck. PS.. More photos of Yuma please.!
