Visit to Tortilla Flat - Part Two

This morning, Yuma and I laid in bed till 9 o'clock because I was feeling so lazy.  We got up, went for a short walk and then had breakfast.  It is going to be another beautiful sunny day with a high of 66.

Kay came by in the afternoon and asked if I would help put up four security cameras.  We managed to get up one and it works great.  Took three hours, but it will be much faster tomorrow now that we know what we're doing.

To be honest, Kay did it and I helped.  She told me a few days ago, she never listened to her husband's advice and I must say she wouldn't listen to mine either, but we got'er done in the end.

We left off with visiting Canyon Lake and ready to move the few miles to Tortilla Flat.  Remember, it is a tourist town and I use the word town loosely.  Actually it's one long boardwalk with stores.

There is so much beauty in these mountains.

Didn't take long to arrive at our destination.
Not much here, but it was certainly crowded.

It is crowded.  Hardly a place to park.  Beautiful location for a cowboy town.
Town justice.
Had a great country band for the Saturday crowd.  Yuma and I stood at the entrance and listened for a bit.
All types of vehicles and did I say the mountains are everywhere and beautiful.
The boardwalk.
On the bathroom wall.

Unfortunately, I couldn't go into the stores for two reasons.  Yuma and guns.  I could not believe a cowboy town in Arizona doesn't allow guns in their shops.  Oh well!

For the last few years, they have been working to fix the upper part of the Apache Trail that got wiped out by floods.  They use helicopters to do the traveling up and down, because they can't get large trucks up the trail.  Long and expensive process.

It is passed time for dinner, so I'm wrapping part two up.  Tomorrow is a big day and hopefully a good day.  We'll see!

There is nine miles to where they have the trail blocked and there is some beautiful scenery.  Tomorrow, along with the news, I will show why I love this country in pictures.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Really wonderful pictures of Tortilla Flats. The mountains are beautiful, just as you said. Keeping fingers crossed for a good report tomorrow! Hopefully you can finish up Kay's security cameras quickly.

    1. Thanks Dolly. I'm hoping for good news, but if not Kay has said many times that i don't need to rush off.

  2. Tortilla Flats looks bigger than what I remember it. I guess we were lucky there wasn't a lot of people there the day we passed through on our way around the Apache Trail. I think we were in a bar or restaurant somewhere for a bite to eat. The walls had a lot of dollar bills and business cards pinned up so we pinned a 'Bayfield Bunch' card on the wall.

    1. It is a fun place on the weekend. Surprised so many people drive those windy, hill roads to visit, but they do. I remember peeking in one place and seeing lots of bills on the wall. I thoroughly enjoyed slowing down and visiting instead of just passing by.

  4. It's a fun tourist trap. The place with the bills on the walls is the Tortilla Flat Saloon. Always busy, food is ok. But, bet you had leftovers from Kay's feast! :)
Still a fun drive and an interesting area to explore. Hope the rest of the Apache Trail opens for you.

    1. Yes, it is a tourist trap all right. Not a dime from me though. I had enough food from Kay for two nights of leftovers. I think she thinks I'm too skinny. 😀

  8. Ha. Do you wear a gun like a cowboy, in a holster, all visible and everything? Seriously? I'm from TX. So am used to them. Just curious.

    1. Nope. Few states allow open carry and Arizona is one. But I prefer conceal carry. Why give up the element of surprise.

  9. What a neat town. As long as our wallets don't come out, a touristy town is no worry.
